Alice Marie Nelson Brown Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Life Reflections Alice Marie Nelson Brown quietly transitioned to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, in Columbia, South Carolina with her two devoted daughters at her bedside. Alice Marie Nelson Brown was the third of four children born to the late Maxine Cayruth Nelson and Alexander King Nelson on February 26, 1935 in Columbia, S.C. She was preceded in death by both parents and three siblings-Herbert C. Nelson Sr. , Maxine N. Walters and Marjorie W. Nelson. Alice affectionately called “Ree” attended Waverly Elementary School and graduated from C.A. Johnson High School. After graduation, she continued her education at Allen University and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education and Library Science. From elementary through high school, she shared a soul connection with one person –Rupert A. Brown Jr. her school sweetheart, husband, father of her children and love of her life. Rupert and Alice were married on August 14, 1957. To their union two beautiful daughters were born- Renee T. Brown and Enid K. Brown. As a child Alice became a member of her family’s church, Second Calvary Baptist Church. She married Rupert and later joined First Nazareth Baptist Church where she was a faithful member and served as a Deaconess. Alice’s professional career started at Webber Elementary School as a Librarian. She taught second grade students at Mill Creek Elementary School for over Twenty years until her retirement. Alice retired from the Richland One School District after Thirty years as a dedicated Educator. Alice and Rupert were dedicated to their family, their church and their friends. They were Charter Members of Club 24 and world-wide travelers. They traveled extensively through-out the Continental United States as well as abroad-London, Paris and Rome. Their favorite vacation spot was Aruba. Alice has earned her Heavenly Reward-Love... Peace... Joy. Precious memories will always be cherished by her two beautiful daughters Renee (Ronald) Brown-Brown and Enid K. Brown Dawkins all of Columbia, S.C; three (greatest on earth) grandsons- Ronald Brown II of Los Angeles, CA. Lamar “Trey” Dawkins III of Raleigh, N.C. and Jalen Dawkins of Columbia, S.C.; beloved brother-in-law Franchot A. Brown Esq.; sisters-in-law Vivian G. Nelson of Columbia, S.C. and Norma Brown Pope of Long Island, N.Y. , a special devoted friend, Mamietta “Punch” Cain of Columbia, S.C.; nephews Herbert C.( Carolyn) Nelson Jr., Alexander “Rod” Nelson, Otis (Rev. Cynthia) Walters, Michael (Deloris) Walters, Gregory (Chaity) Walters all of Columbia, S.C. and Brian S. Brown of Washington, GA; nieces; Cederia Walters of Columbia, S.C. and Celita Chrisman of Madison, TN. a special cousin John J. McCracken, Jr. of New York, N.Y., former son-in-law Dr. Lamar Dawkins, Jr. of Orangeburg, S.C. and daughter in friendship Kim Corley of Columbia, S.C., a host of grand and great-grand nieces, grand and great – grandnephews, cousins and friends who will miss Alice greatly.
