Charles Eason, Jr.

Charles Eason, Jr. transitioned from this earthly life Thursday, March 19, 2020, at Providence Health Northeast in Columbia, South Carolina. Born September 12, 1938, in Salem, New Jersey, he was the beloved son of the late Charles, Sr. and Ella Wright Eason. Charles, as he was affectionately called, was educated in the public schools of Penns Grove, New Jersey. After his 1959 high school graduation, Charlie joined the Unites States Naval Reserves (USNR) and briefly served our country admirably before his Honorable Discharge in 1960. While in the USNR, he honed valuable life skills as Hospital Corpsman. After his discharge, he met and married the late Ernestine Henrietta Clay. To this loving union, four children were born. Charlie supported his family by working as a brick mason at DuPont Chemicals for thirty-one years. Upon his retirement, the family relocated from Mickleton, New Jersey to Columbia, South Carolina. During his twenty-four year "retirement," Charlie worked numerous jobs including: chimney sweep; security guard at both Jefferson Square and Benedict College; landscaper at USC; and as CNA at Daybreak Senior Care. In 2007, Charlie married Mary Elizabeth Jones. Charlie was a member and regularly attended Unity of Columbia. He was a person who loved God, his family, and his church friends. He was a member of MUV Fitness Club, as he was always into physical fitness and vitamins. He enjoyed various pursuits including: traveling; going out to dinner and movies; good upbeat music (Nina Simone was one of his favorites); he also loved watching National Geographic, Animal Planet, the Travel Channel, and Ancient Alien documentaries on TV; spending time talking with his family; working in his yard; and was a great lover of trees and plants with his two green thumbs. He was always loving, friendly, and smiling to everyone. He was "Mr. Personality." Charlie was loved by everyone who knew him. He loved talking to everyone and will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents and first wife, Charlie was preceded in death by two siblings: Wanzy Lee Eason and Gertis Eason. He leaves to cherish fond memories his loving and devoted wife Mary Elizabeth Jones Eason of the home; two daughters: Lisa Anne Eason of Mickleton, New Jersey, and Christina M. (Frank) Suber of Columbia; two sons: David Charles (Dorothy) Eason of Atlantic City, New Jersey, and Christopher M. Eason of Charleston, South Carolina; two blended sons: Edward James Jones of Sumter, South Carolina, and Patrick Thomas Jones of Florence, South Carolina; seven grandchildren: Marques Sr., Janae, Jamahl Sr., Ulili, Odjegba, Desiree, and Justin; eight great-grandchildren: Nyaja, Nahla, Jamahl Jr., Kyree, Marques Jr., Julianna, Gionnie, and Caiden; a sister Beulah Eason Mills; two brothers: Rashie (Detelia) Eason and Sharif (Sante) Eason; six brothers-in-law: Shelton (Mellorine) Ford; Dr. Stephen (Dr. Kathy) Ford; Elijah (Jackie) Reed, Albren Reed, Jason Reed, and Ronnie (Annette) Reed; eight sisters-in-law: Bertha Shockley, Bernastine Martine, Rev. Patricia Richardson, Verna R. Carroll, Sharolyn R. Young, Anneatha R. (John Jeff) Williams, and Bretta R. (Alvin) Staley; a special friend John Love; and a host of other relatives and friends.
