Mrs. Dora Louise Brown

Mrs. Dora Louise Brown, departed this earthly life on Saturday morning, November 8, 2014 at her residence in Wedgefield, S.C. She left her family and friends this message “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing; give thanks in all circumstances: for this is the Will of God”. Born August 28, 1926 in Sumter County, she was the youngest of four children born to the late Charles and Dora Bracey. She began her Christian journey at Jehovah Missionary Baptist, where she served on the Usher Board. Then after her marriage to Eddie Brown, she transferred her membership to Wayman Chapel A. M. E. Church, where she served faithfully in many capacities including: Stewardess Board #1, Benevolence Club, Sunday School Class, and the Wilhelmenia “Sweetheart” Burgess Missionary Society. Mrs. Brown was employed by the Blackburn Wilson Family for twenty years. As a caretaker, she considered their children: Eide and Nicholas as her own. She later was employed by the Carl W. Simpson family for over thirty five years and also claimed their children, Amy, Molly and Leigh. In her spare time, she enjoyed attending the Delaine Community Center. Her hobbies included playing Bingo, Crossword Puzzles and traveling; she especially liked visiting Las Vegas. She had a larger than life personality and was a straight shooter in conversation; she said whatever was on her mind. She had the gift of gab and mastered the one- liners. Someone was always saying, “Weezie, you are too much, where do you get this stuff.” You were always welcomed at her table to partake of her delicious fried chicken, collard greens, rice burgers, neck-bones, pigtails and sweet potato pies… and you had a plate to go. Her doors were always opened to anyone in need. She had a big compassionate heart, and saw good in everyone. Mrs. Brown loved the Lord and kept her Bible and Sunday School books close at hand. She constantly encouraged her children to trust in the Lord. She had a great sense of humor, complimented by a big smile, almost as big as the gorgeous hats she wore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Luther Howard and Eddie Brown; a son, Luther Solomon Howard and a daughter Rebie Howard; two brothers, Matthew Bracey and Ezekiel Bracey. Those left to cherish precious memories, are seven daughters; Flossie Howard of Sumter, Maxine Hill, Jacqueline Howard, Mary (John) Mayrant and Geneva Green of Wedgefield, SC; Dorothy Howard, Boston, MA and Glenda (Allen W.) Miller, Rembert, SC; two sons, Charles and Glenn Howard, Wedgefield, SC; 24 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great grandchildren; one sister Mary B. Wright, Boston, MA; Sisters in- Laws, Sarah Bracey and Mary Brown; special daughters, Victoria Cruz, Mary G. Platt, Annie Mae Brailsford and Mystene Davis; godchildren, Arnold Platt, Genina Brooks- Lewis; special nephew, Bruce Bracey ; Special Cousins, Timothy Brown and Byron Hunter; and a host of nieces nephews, other relatives and friends.
