On Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at 3:00 pm, surrounded by the love of her family, Elvira peacefully transitioned, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith. Born on September 9, 1945, to Lester and Wilma Seale Stewart in Raleigh, N.C., Ms. Elvira Elaine Stewart Kennedy possessed a heart brimming with kindness. Her educational journey led her through Ligon High School in Raleigh, NC, and culminated in a BA degree in Sociology from St. Augustine College in Raleigh, NC. She furthered her quest for knowledge by obtaining a Master’s degree in Psychology from State University of New York. Professionally, she served as a Senior Therapist and Department Head at Rockland Psychiatric Center in New York. United in love, George and Elvira Kennedy were blessed with twin sons, Troy and Sean Kennedy. A woman of profound faith, Elvira embodied the strength of a true Christian. Her belief in God's grace guided her through life's trials, and she faced challenges with courage and resilience. In 1997, she, along with her sons, became members of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Columbia, S.C. Elvira's talents extended beyond the spiritual realm into the artistic, serving as an event coordinator and decorator. Her creative touch and meticulous attention to detail transformed church gatherings into memorable and uplifting experiences. A master seamstress and designer, she adorned many with her unique creations. Elvira an entrepreneur in designing became a businessowner in1985 the TroySean Inc., specializing in creating prom dresses for high school students. Once a harmonious voice in the choirs, Elvira lifted hearts with her melodic contributions during worship services. Her love for music and devotion to her faith blended seamlessly, creating a transcendent atmosphere that enriched the spiritual experience for all in attendance. She sang with the best of them to include Cissy Houston at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey Her dedication to faith transcended her personal life, leaving an indelible mark within her church community. As a distinguished member of the Lay organization, she received the honor of being the 2013 Hall of Fame awardee. Her compassionate nature shone brightly through her roles in the Women’s Missionary Society, Food service ministry and as an Acolyte Ministry advisor, nurturing spiritual growth among the youth. Every role she assumed, her commitment and passion for her churches in New Jersey and Columbia, SC communities radiated brightly. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched, the events she orchestrated, and the hymns she sang with heartfelt devotion. Ms. Elvira was preceded by her parents, husband George Kennedy, brother Charles Stewart, and sister Martha Stewart Clement. Ms. Elvira is survived by her devoted sons, Troy and Sean Kennedy, her brother James “Blair” Stewart, and sisters Gladys Stewart Turner and Deborah Stewart. She is also remembered by her grandson Kason Kennedy, goddaughter Ajaidia Hopkins, (2) nieces Cheryl Tisdale and Shakeema Bell, nephews; Roger Piiru, Rodney Piiru, Sim Altarique Stewart, 16 great nieces and nephews, cousin Gwen Williams “Rawk”, lifelong friend Shirley S. Winston, a special friend Willie Johnson, and a host of cousins and friends. She was preceded by her parents, husband George Kennedy, brother Charles Stewart, and sister Martha Stewart Clement. As we bid farewell to Ms. Elvira Elaine Stewart Kennedy, let us cherish the joy she brought into our lives, the boundless love she shared, and the enduring strength she exhibited as a Christian woman. In our hearts, she will forever be a beacon of kindness and faith. A true testament to a life well lived!
