Mrs. Mary Dicks Pringle

Mary Dicks Pringle, the daughter of the late William Dicks and Adeline Lane Dicks, was born on January 6, 1941, in Sumter, South Carolina. She departed this life on November 11, 2023, from a brief illness in Boston, Massachusetts. Mary received her education in the public schools of Sumter, South Carolina, and graduated in the Class of 1959 from Lincoln High School. She was employed at Deran Candy Factory and later worked at the Bank of Boston Food Services for many years. Mary was united in Holy Matrimony to Robert Pringle in 1962. From this union two beautiful girls were born, Tina and Priscilla. They were the joy of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Mary accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and became a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Sumter, South Carolina. After graduating from high school, she relocated to Boston, Massachusetts, where she was also a member of Swain Memorial A. M. E. (African Methodist Episcopal) Zion Church in which she served as the treasurer. Mary enjoyed singing in the gospel group called the Israelites and visiting different churches worshipping and praising God. Mary enjoyed life as it was handed to her. She loved cruising and went on a cruise every year until her health did not allow her to and she also enjoyed the casino on and off the ship. She loved cooking for her family and friends on New Year’s Day to present them with a meal that consisted of pig feet, chitterlings, collards greens, black-eyed peas, rice, and don’t forget her signature homemade pound cake that everyone knew when they tasted it that it was hers. This was an event she looked forward to and everyone invited did too every year as we crammed thirty (+) people into her house. Oh, don’t forget about her homemade fruit cake she made every year and mailed it to all her sisters and friends near and far. These events gave her so much joy. Mary and the girls, at their younger age, enjoyed traveling on the Greyhound bus to Sumter, South Carolina every summer. For a whole month, they stayed and visited her mother and sisters. Eating their fried chicken on the bus was a very special time together which brought her much pleasure to spend time with her family. Mary was a jewel with a heart of gold. She had a big heart and would give the shirt off her back, but first, you would have to hear her voice her opinion. Mary was the wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, babysitter, and friend who showed unconditional love for everyone. Mary’s grandchildren, great-granddaughter, and other family members were the light of her life. She made everyone feel like they were her favorite. She would call everyone for their birthday and send Christmas cards to all. She will be dearly missed by all. In addition to her parents Mary was preceded in death by her three brothers, Willie Lee Dicks, Earl Dick, Sr., and Wilbert Dix, Sr.; and her two sisters, Harriet Dicks Haynesworth and Margaret Dicks Singleton. She leaves to cherish her memory: her two children, Tina (David) House and Priscilla (William) Pringle-Gosmon; her two grandchildren, Bernard Pringle and Jayvani House; one great-granddaughter, Saniayah Newton; three sisters, Frances Dicks Hill (Anthriest, Sr.), Marie Dicks McDaniel, and Victoria Dicks Mapp; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Dix; one cousin/brother, Ernest Dix, Jr.; one adopted daughter, Regina Offutt; special friends, Jannie Gadson and Dorothy Newton (Cruising Buddy); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and very special friends. It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn’t go alone. A part of us went with you, the day God took you home. A million times we missed you, A million times we cried. If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died. To the grave we travel, the flowers are placed with care. No one knows the heartache, as we turn to leave you there. If fears could build a stairway, and heartaches could make a lane, We would walk a path to heaven, and bring you back again.
