Mrs. Albertha Gourdine Prioleau

Albertha, affectionately known as “Bubba,” the daughter of the late Johnny Gourdine and Mariah (Grant) Gourdine was born on December 15, 1935. On Friday, August 20, 2021, she took her final rest and entered into her heavenly home. Educated in the schools of Berkeley County, Albertha worked in Berkeley County School District, driving school bus for 30 years and driving 10 more years after retirement, totaling 40 years. She loved her job. She also loved her kids and had a story to tell about them every day. At an early age, Albertha accepted Jesus Christ and joined Redeemer R.E. Church and became a life-long member. She also attended New Saint Thomas’ RE Church in Columbia while being cared for by her daughter. Albertha served on the Junior/Senior Choir for many, many years. Her favorite song, “There’s A God Who Knows It All”. Albertha served on the Missionary Society. She loved working for God, serving God with her whole heart!! Albertha, small, kind, gentle, loving, soft spoken, she was a Jack-of-All-Trade. Many came to Bubba for advice because everyone knew that when Bubba spoke, so soft and spirited, it would be just what they needed to hear. Bubba saw the absolute best in everyone. Bubba was a Queen Hair Stylist, “Old School” straightening comb and curlers. No matter how short or long your hair were, you did not get your ears burned. A Master of pressing and curling! Bubba was a seamstress and did alterations. Many came to her for cuffing and fitting of their clothes. If it were too small or too big, Bubba made it fit. Perfectly. Bubba was an artist. She loved to draw. Most of Mariah and Johnny’s children were musicians. Earnest, Silas, Abraham, Johnny, Bubba could play the piano. Bubba could not pass by a piano without playing and singing her favorite songs. Albertha was united in marriage to George Prioleau, Jr., June of 1953, being married 68 years, whom she leaves to cherish her Love. To this union they had 3 children. Bubba will forever be remembered by her children. Antonio (Linda) Prioleau, Patricia Martin, Sylvester (Eva) Prioleau. Grandchildren: Mitzi Prioleau, TaSheka (Dwight) Cole, Asia Prioleau, Jeremy Prioleau, Tempestt (Roderick) Davenport, Leon Martin, Jr.;great-grandchildren: DeAndre’ Coles, Davion Coles, Dwight Coles, Jr. Antonio-Prioleau Bryant, Noel Martin, Cartier Martin, Roderick Orlando Davenport III, River Davenport. One sister Minister Earline (Moses) River. A very special God Child, Ruby Bennett Almond. Bubba’s very special PoohPooh Prioleau. sisters-in-law: Rosa Gourdine and Mardean Gourdine. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Albertha was preceded in death by 4 sisters: Alice, Mary Ellen, Willie Mae, Elizabeth, and 5 brothers: James, Johnny, Abraham, Paul and Silas.
