Mr Benjamin Floyd

Benjamin ”Bully” Floyd, died suddenly on Thursday evening, July 25, 2013 at his residence in the Claremont Community of Sumter. He was the youngest son of fourteen children born to the late Style Floyd, Sr. and Sarah Lee Gayle Floyd. He received his education in Sumter School District #2, graduating from Hillcrest High School Class of 1972. He worked as a school bus driver, a truck driver for Sumter County, and E.I. Dupont in Camden, SC. He was raised in High Hill AME and Willow Grove AME Churches. “Bully” as he was so affectionately known, was a fun-loving and kind person, who loved being around his nieces and nephews. His favorite hangouts were on Hwy 441 at McDonalds, Food Lion and Subway; they were generous to him in so many ways. He was very supportive of people in the community: providing transportation to many, taking them to doctor appointments or whatever the need … In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; Leroy Floyd, Roosevelt Floyd, Johnnie Floyd and James Floyd; and a sister, Gracie Floyd Hunter. He leaves to cherish precious memories; brothers, Style (Magnolia) Floyd, Jr., New Jersey, George “Plucky”(Beulah), Floyd, Dalzell, SC; sisters, Azalee” Dot” Gayle, Wedgefield, SC, Evelena (David) Floyd English, Dalzell, SC, Louise McCoy, Eastover, SC, Janie Floyd Hunter, Hopkins, SC , Nancy “Boo” (Henry) Bradford, Rembert, SC, and Rosa Floyd , Hopkins, SC; a special niece and caretaker, Gwendolyn Floyd of Sumter and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and family members. He also leaves a best friend, who was like a brother, Jeffrey Snow, as well as Rick Workman and David Gayle. Funeral services will be held, 4:00 pm, Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the High Hill AME Church with Rev. Thomas Habersham, Pastor and Rev. Linda Richbow, officiating, Interment will follow in the High Hill Cemetery. The public may view 1:00- 7:00 pm Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at the Palmer Memorial Chapel , 304 South Main St., Sumter.
