Mr. Carl Samuel Smith

Life Reflections Carl Samuel Smith, 56, departed this earthly life on February 27th, 2023 at Prisma Richland Health Hospital. Born in Columbia, South Carolina on July 4th 1966. He was the second son of Mattie Delores Jordan and the late Robert Lewis Smith, Sr. Carl was a graduate of Richland Northeast High School Class of 1984. Carl later attended some classes at Midlands Technical College which helped to further his interests in the construction field. For the majority of his working life Carl was a Certified Contractor and a Master Stone and Tile Setter. Carl specialized in working with all types of tile and stone. At the time of his passing, Carl was retired from the workforce but still enjoyed doing projects for friends and family. Carl was a very generous man and loved giving back to his community. One of Carl's favorite pastimes was cooking. Carl paired his love for cooking with his desire to give back and regularly held large cookouts where he fed the homeless and anyone else who wanted a great meal. Carl also enjoyed the beach, every year he would rent a house at the beach for a week and have all of his family stay with him and Valerie. For anyone who was fortunate enough to know Carl even for a little while, it was obvious what a special man he was. Around four years ago, Carl was on the kidney transplant list. When the call finally came, Carl turned down the kidney, telling them that they should give the kidney to someone younger who would be able to live much longer than he would. Carl will be missed by all who knew him but his love of twenty years Valerie Rush will miss him most of all. He leaves behind to cherish precious memories; His mother, Maddie D. Smith; his brother Robert Lewis Smith, Jr.; his beloved girlfriend Valerie Rush; his daughter's: Porcheu Rush of Columbia, SC, Cherrelle Kinard of Columbia, SC; his sons, David Callaham of Columbia, SC, Kenneth Rush, III, of Columbia, SC, Khalil Carlos of Columbia, SC; his granddaughters: Tamarie Watts, Tamir Watts, Caleaha Rush of Columbia, SC and Kalyani Johnson of Phoenix, AZ; his grandson, Kylen Rush of Columbia, SC; his special cousins, Cynthia Alexander and Marion Williams, Jr., and a host of other family and friends.
