Ms. Carol Elaine Bowens

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day -- and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. Carol Elaine Bowens, the daughter of the late Wylie and Creola Scott Bowens, was born in Sumter, SC. She departed this life on Thursday, December, 14, 2023 at Prisma Health Tuomey in Sumter, SC. Carol received her early education in the Sumter, County Public Schools and was a 1977 graduate of Sumter, High School, Sumter, SC. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Education and a Masters of Business Education from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC, and did further graduate studies at Francis Marion University in Florence, SC. Carol was a National Board-Certified Teacher. She served as secretary at Morris College Department of Education, South Carolina State College Band Department, and Rafting Creek Elementary School. Her professional life as an educator included Cherokee County, Jasper County, and Lee County (Mt. Pleasant High School, Lee Central Middle, and Lee County Career Center). One of her greatest joys was working and traveling with the Singing Rattlers of Mt. Pleasant High School and the Lee Central High School Choir. Carol accepted Christ as her Savior at Beulah African Methodist Church, Sumter. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society, the Ladies Club, and the Heavenly Highlights Choir. She was also a member of the Sumter Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Galloway Williams. Her memory will be cherished by her siblings: Rev. Dr. Debbie Bowens-Davis (Deacon CMSgt Ret. Robert F. Davis), Dr. Brenda Faye Bowens, and Wylie Derrick (Deanna) Bowens; nieces: Jana D. (George) Brailsford-Wise, Dr. Sherree Davis and Tahitia Simone Williams; nephews: Anthony (Sarah) Slaughter, Scott Davis, Joshua (Romina) Bowens, Shelton Davis, Daniel Bowens, Derrrick Alexander Bowens, and James Williams, II; grand-nieces: Khalia Davis, Zoey, Zoe Zalasko, and Zella Bowens; grand-nephews: Saffir Wise, Jeremiah Slaughter, Nathaniel Slaughter, and DeShon Stevens; aunts: Bessie King, Shirley Scott, and Yvonne Moore; close friend, Thomas Terry Slater and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
