Carrie Lee Taylor Ashford

I looked over Jordan and what did I see … There was a band of angels commin' after me.” On Thursday morning, December 10, 2015 at 3:02 am, Carrie Lee Taylor Ashford reached toward heaven and joined that band of angels. Carrie Lee Taylor Ashford was born March 11, 1917, to the late John Emanuel and Carrie Geiger Taylor. She and her eight siblings were nurtured in a loving Christian environment where her parents taught her to never place anyone or anything above God. She was educated in the public schools of Richland County. Mrs. Asford worked as a Dietician for Richland School District One – Eau Claire High School - for more than 35 years and retired May of 1986. At the age of nine years, she committed her heart and life to God and joined Zion Chapel Baptist Church No. One. During her almost 90 years of service at Zion Chapel she was a faithful member and served diligently as Mother of the Church, Mother of the Senior Usher Board, Member of the Senior Missionary Society, and many other auxiliaries. Since birth, she thoroughly enjoyed life and everything it offered. Sister Ashford found beauty in God’s magical moments. Her love for travel was surpassed only by her love for serving God, reading His word, attending church and Sunday School services. And mostly, she thanked God for the precious moments He allowed her to spend with family and friends. Carrie Lee Ashford was affectionally embraced by all who knew her. To her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren she was known as Mother - a reflection of matriarchy, culture and admiration. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Aaron Ashford; sons Rudolph, Larry and Aubrey; daughters Willodean and Audrey; and grandson Ryan. Surviving are: her son, Milton (Donna) Ashford, Sr.; her daughters Gayle Person, Beverly, and Sonya Ashford; daughter-in-law Ola Ashford; sister Mattie Cooke; grandchildren Dana and Dexter Ashford, Tomeiko (Jaymes) Carter, SaMaria (Ronald F.) Hughes, Sherani (Patrick) Patterson, Tremeka (Rashad) Myers, Aubrey (Asmarette) Ashford Jr., Milton Ashford Jr., Byron Edwards, Aaron (Tamala) Ashford Sr., and Shannon Ashford; and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will all miss her dearly.
