Channey McLeod Dinkins

Channey McLeod Dinkins was the fourth of five children born to SSGT. Robert and Katie Taylor McLeod in Columbia, South Carolina on March 24, 1953. She died in the evening of November 3, 2016, at the Providence Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. She was married to Frederick Dinkins, this union was blessed with one son, Vincent Dinkins. Channey was a graduate of the Dreher High School Class of 1971. A lifelong member of Brown Chapel AME Church in Arthurtown, she loved her church family and served diligently over the years in various capacities, including the Stewardess Board Ministry, Vacation Bible School Teacher, and wherever her gifts and talents were needed. Channey was previously employed with the Columbia Metropolitan Airport , the United States Army at Fort Jackson, and retired in 2015 after nineteen years with Bose, Inc. Channey's great sense of humor, her selflessness, her warm personality, her kind heart, her personal goal of "keeping things real," and her generosity resulted in her having a great many friends whom she loved and adored, and who in turn loved and adored her. Channey was a social person and kept everyone laughing in her role as the church comedienne; she also delighted in the company of family and friends. She had a zest for life that kept her seeking new adventures and travelling to new places. Channey was preceded in death by a brother Robert Daniel McLeod. She leaves to cherish precious memories and be inspired by the life that she led her husband Frederick Dinkins of Orlando, Florida; her son Vincent (Allegra) Dinkins of Atlanta, Georgia; two grandsons: Vincent Cutrone Dinkins of Atlanta, Georgia, and Christopher Thompson of Columbia; four sisters: Carolyn (Tommie) Whetstone, Barbara M. McCoy, and S. Gwen McLeod, all of Columbia, and Glennell (Isaac) Nathan of Gadsden; three aunts: Vivian Ricks, Joan Adams, and Dahlia Williams, all of Columbia; a father-in-law Charlie Broadnax of Orlando, Florida; two brothers-in-law: Homer Dinkins of Orlando, Florida, and Gerald (Janice) Dinkins of Hopkins; three sisters-in-law: Virginia McLeod of Columbia, Brenda Dinkins of Atlanta, Georgia, and L'Tanya Logan of Orlando, Florida; two godsons: Kalan Whetstone and Jeremiah McCoy; and a host of nieces; nephews; grandnieces; grandnephews; and many other cousins and friends whose lives will be forever illuminated by hers in the days, weeks, and years to come.
