Dorothy Gallman Golden

Dorothy G. Golden was born to the late James A. Speaks and the late Laura Gallman (John) Lybrand in Columbia, South Carolina. Affectionately called “Dottie”- she was educated in the public schools of Columbia, S.C. and Washington D.C. and at a young age became a member of Columbia’s Bethel A.M.E. Church. Upon meeting and marrying the love of her life, the late Deacon Luther Samuel “Sam” Golden, Sr. she then joined Brookland Baptist Church in West Columbia, S.C. She was an active and dedicated Deaconess, a member of the Church Aide Auxiliary, and the Senior Warriors, and also initiated the beginning of Brookland’s Family and Friends Day and the Green Tea. She also served her community by being a member of the Columbia, SC chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America, Courtyard Condominium Complex Board. In her professional life she served as a home health care provider until her retirement. Being an ardent and faithful Christian, she led her family in the admonition of God and to church. Dottie read her Bible daily and kept the Lord as head of her and her family’s life. She always said “Keep your hand in God’s unchanging hand”. She was a very loving woman who mentored many of the younger women of Brookland Baptist Church and the greater Columbia community. The JOY of her life was fellowshipping, eating and dancing with her family; her children, their children and extended family. Dottie loved to cook, clean and entertain. She loved to laugh and tell jokes. She never met a stranger and talk up a blue streak to anyone who would listen! She loved to travel and she loved to shop. She and was a Total DIVA – Hats to Heels!! She was preceded in death by her parents and her only brother Thomas Gallman. She is now reunited with her Love and Friend “Sam”. She leaves to cherish her precious memory four children: Dorothy “Tootsie” (Jerome) Green, Sandra (Horace) Brown, Claudia (Benjamin) Williams and Luther S. Golden Jr. One brother-in-law, and two sisters–in-law She loved her children but doted on and spoiled her grandchildren and great-grand’s. She leaves to treasure her memory 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She also leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who she adored.
