Mrs. Jeffie B. McDonald

Jeffie Blackwell McDonald, the third daughter of children born to the late William Elijah and Frances Mathis Blackwell was born on November 21, 1928 in Summerton, SC and departed this early life on Wednesday January 22, 2014 at Tuomey Healthcare System. Jeffie was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. After graduation, she received a Bachelors degree in education from Clark College in Atlanta, Ga. She accepted her first teaching job at the age of 21 at District 1 Clarendon County Public High School teaching social studies. Jeffie married Alonzo McDonald and after many happy years together he was called home. They had no children from their union. Jeffie was a loving and caring person who was dedicated to her teaching profession. After 42 years of service with the historical Scott Branch High School she retired. Upon retirement she cared for her mother Frances in Milwaukee, Wis. until her death. Jeffie returned to Sumter where she was a long time member of the Historic Liberty Hill A.M.E. Church in Summerton, SC.. Her devotion for the Blackwell family, The Historic Liberty Hill Church, and time spent with the Delaine sisters brought her much joy. Jeffie loved to socialize, eat wonderful food (especially macaroni and cheese and fried okra) and shop. In addition to her husband and parents, Jeffie was preceded in death by her two sisters, Frances Katie Lawson and Lelia Maqerveen. Jeffie Leaves to cherish precious memories: a sister Laura DeClue and brother-in-law Gerald DeClue of St. Louis, Mo, four nieces Carrie Garnett from Garnett, Md., Julia Lawson from Summerton, S.C., Luvenia Hall from Md., Karla Thompson from Washington, D.C., four nephews Ellison (Christine) Lawson Jr. from SC, Daniel (Lorraine) Lawson from NC., Ronald Henry, from IL., and Paul (Alicia) Henry from Afghanistan, one grandchild LeShean (Sequoia) Lawson from Ala., and many grand nieces and nephews. She also leaves a host of other relatives and friends especially Sharon Bennett. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at The Historic Liberty Hill A.M.E. Church at, 2310 Liberty Hill Rd, Summerton, with The Rev. Dr. Leslie J. Lovett officiating. The public may view from 10:00 am until the hour of service. Internment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park.
