A Time to Be Born… Mr. Jerry Randal Baker was born August 22, 1969 as the first of three children born to Mr. Jerry Baker and Mrs. Cora Linton Baker at Shaw Air Force Base Hospital in Sumter, South Carolina. A Time to Grow… “Randy”, as he was affectionately called, began his educational journey in the public schools of Sumter County. He graduated from Sumter High School in the Class of 1987 and the same year he matriculated to the United States Army to serve his country. He served six years and was a veteran of the Operation Desert Storm of the Gulf War. His military training of pristine dress and clean transitioned to his civilian life. A Time for Family… As “Randy” traveled in the military, he met Pearl Horne and they married in 1988. To this union they were blessed with two daughters, Brittany and Briana. He was a proud, dedicated, and devoted father and grandfather to his eight grandchildren and attentive son and brother He was affectionately known to his grandchildren as “Little Papa”. He was a humble, loving and attentive son and brother. He later married Deneice Johnson. A Time to Live… “Randy” enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. It had become a part of his daily routine to keep them during the day while Brittany was at work. He would often travel to Florida to visit his daughter Briana. It was not unusual to pull in the driveway of his parent’s home to see Randy visiting, sitting outside chatting with his mom and dad; and the grandchildren running around having fun. Randy was a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. He was a warm and special person who liked to travel, cook, and spend time with friends. If you knew Randy you would know that he loved his family, especially his siblings. That was often proven with one of his favorite quotes, “That’s my sister now, I love my sister, I love my sister now,” and the same applied to his only brother, Jerard. A Time to Die… On Thursday, June 15, 2023, Jerry Randal Baker came to the end of his earthly life journey at his residence in Sumter, South Carolina. A Time to Cherish… He leaves to cherish his loving memory, two daughters, Brittany Baker of Sumter, SC and Briana Baker of Gretna, Florida; his parents, Jerry Baker and Cora Linton Baker of Sumter, SC; eight grandchildren, Tania, Kaniera, Harmoni, Gregory, Kingston, Marquise, Alaiah and Kairo; one sister, LaTonya Baker (Kennard) McFadden of Sumter, SC; one brother, Jerard Lamont Baker of Sumter, SC; two nephews, Glenn Hickman and Jayshawn June; four uncles, eight aunts, one great aunt, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lucille and Sam Baker; maternal grandparents, Robert and Sarah Linton, aunts and uncles.
