Mrs. Pearl Harris Hunter

Pearl Harris Hunter departed this earthly life on Friday, September 3, 2021. She was born in Horatio, SC on May 8, 1945, to the late Ed Harris Jr. and Pearl Seawright Harris. As a child, Pearl was raised in Willow Grove AME church and faithfully continued to serve throughout her later years. She served in many capacities with the Missionary Society on the Local (Willow Grove) Missionary and was President for 9 years. She served as Parliamentarian on the Area level (Lancaster) and was a Member at Large on the Conference level (Columbia conference). She was also an Observer to the Women’s Missionary Society Quadrennial. She served as Class Leader, Steward, YPD director and Debs and Master Commissioner. Pearl started Girl Scout Troop 916 at Willow Grove AME in 1998 and was a Life member of the Girl Scouts. Pearl was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Catchall Chapter #315. Pearl was a graduate of Ebenezer High School in the Class of 1963 and continued her education at South Carolina State University. She enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in the telecommunications industry; retiring from both General Telephone & Electronics Corp. and Farmers Telephone Cooperative. She was a member of the Golden Girls of Sumter, an outreach organization that provides financial scholarship and mentorship to the community youth and fellowship for members. Pearl was a member of Ebenezer High School Alumni Association. Pearl was devoted to her family and she especially loved her grandchildren and spending time with them. She enjoyed supporting her church family and friends in the community. Pearl enjoyed traveling as much as she could and liked the shopping and dining that came along with that. “The first impression, should be your best impression”; so, she liked to dress up and wear her “Sunday best” hats. Pearl was preceded in eternal life by her parents and siblings, Mary Harris Ellison, Frank Harris Sr., George Harris, Sam Harris, Ed Harris III and Azeez Mustafa. Her memory will be cherished by her husband of 49 years, Henry Hunter Jr. Two daughters, Candace Michelle (Leslie Scott) Owens and Kimberly Hunter-Crawford (Adarryll), all of Sumter County, SC. Her beloved grandchildren are Courtney Danielle, Jaylen Lee, Jordan Noelle, Leslie Scott (Jr.), Aaron Christopher and Darryll Andrew. Two brothers, Joe Louis Harris and Roosevelt (Delores) Harris, Sr., all of Sumter County, SC. She also leaves nieces and nephews, who lovingly called her “Aunt Tutti”, and other dear relatives and friends.
