Ms. Shakena Jawana Tomlin

The compassionate life of Ms. Shakena Jawana Tomlin was determined to be fulfilled by Our Lord Jesus Christ on June 3rd, 2026. Shakena, affectionately known as Kena, was born October 27th, 1989 in Sumter, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Oscar Joe Brunson and the late Pamela Yvette Tomlin. Shakena was a member of Congruity Presbyterian Church, USA in Gable, South Carolina. She went to Sumter County Public Schools and graduated from Crestwood High School. She was most recently employed as a teaching fellow at Liberty Steam Charter School where she took pride in being a positive remodel serving our youth. Shakena poured into everything that she did, leaving a long lasting positive impression on each individual that she came across. Shakena wore many hats when it came to working and helping others. She enjoyed doing other people's hair as well as her own. Shakena leaves behind many loved ones to cherish invaluable memories. Her loving children: Kenaria Yvette Tomlin, Brandon Jo Siah Ingram Jr., and Ari Yanna Nicole Rhinehart of Sumter, SC. Her siblings: Tessica Shaquanda Charles of Grafenwoehr, Germany, Moses Maurice Sumter, Jr. and Ernest Olonzo Jenkins Ill of Sumter, SC. Her paternal grandfather George Lee Tomlin of Sumter, SC. Uncles: Keith A. Tomlin, Chappell E. Tomlin (Aretha), Jeffrey M. Anderson, Earl English, all of Sumter, SC, Richard Brunson of Clinton, MD and Roy Brunson of Washington, DC. Aunts Mamie and Beatrice Brunson, of Sumter, SC, and Anna Brunson of Linden, NJ. Two devoted great aunts who were like her mothers: Carrie Anderson and Julia Nelson of the home. Great-Aunts Deloris China (Lawrence) of Sumter, SC, and Eliza Benton of Columbia, SC. Special cousins: Kristin Anderson of Baltimore, MD and Nathalie Brown of Henrico, VA. A host of loving Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Shakena was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother: Malvenia Anderson Tomlin; paternal grandparents: Beaufort Jim and Wilemenia English Brunson; a special aunt: Jaqueline Tomlin; great-aunts: Brenda Williams, Hannah Pack-McDowell and Mary Smith; an uncle: Beaufort Brunson; sisters: Dominique Tomlin, Moiesha Shalena Lavenia Tomlin, and Thaina Maria Jenkins.
