Theo William Moss Jr

Theo William Moss, Jr., 49, transitioned Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Georgia. Born in Sumter County, he was the son of Frances Clark Moss and the late Theo W. Moss, Sr. His early education began in the Clarendon and Sumter County Public Schools. He was a graduate of Sumter High School, Class of 1981, and a graduate of the University of South Carolina, Class of 1984. After graduation, Theo began his professional career with the BellSouth Corporation in Atlanta, Georgia and was employed with the Georgia Department of Human Resources as an Epidemiologist for the past ten years. Theo was a member of the St. Luke Episcopal Church, in Atlanta and was an active member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew and the Union of Black Episcopalians. He was an active participant in many civic and social organizations, including; The DeKalb County NAACP, The Atlanta Chapter of the National Urban League, University of South Carolina Alumni Association, Jaguar Learning Mentor at Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain Georgia, and the DeKalb Young Democrats. He was also a board member of the Azalea House and the Charles H. Wesley Education Foundation. He was a life member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in Sumter, South Carolina, and later served as Chaplain and Dean of Pledges for Nu Mu Lambda Chapter in Decatur Georgia. He is survived by his loving mother, Frances Clark Moss, Sumter, SC; a devoted sister Rosalind Moss, Atlanta, GA; Godparents, Thelma Moss (Edward) Robinson, Columbus, GA.; seven aunts, Mildred Moss Daniels, Thelma Moss (Edward) Robinson, Earline Moss, Annie Mae (Janerette) McQuiller, Scottie McQuiller, Amy Williams, and Emma Norton; a special cousin Ruby McQuiller-Williams, of Sumter; God-sisters, and brothers; Vicky Duncan, Erica Rogers, Rhonda Stewart, Derek Jones, Gerald Watts, and a host of cousins and other relatives. The Omega Service will begin at 11:30, Saturday, January 26, 2013, followed by the funeral service beginning 12:00 noon at Emmanuel United Methodist, with Reverend, Doris Bright, officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Memorial Park. The public may view Friday from 1:00-7:00 p.m. at the Palmer Memorial Chapel, 304 South Main St., Sumter, SC. Mr. Moss will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service. The family will receive friends at the home of his mother, 728 Estate St., Sumter, SC 29150.
