Mr. Thomas Miller

Today we celebrate the home going of Mr. Thomas Miller. He departed this earthly life on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Prisma Health Richland in Columbia, South Carolina. Born in Sumter County on May 26, 1941 to the late Gregg and Rebecca Rivers Miller. Thomas was a life-long member of Willow Grove A.M.E. Church, Rembert, SC and was a faithful member where he served as a Trustee and father of the church. He was instrumental in the installation of the church parking lot. Also, in the early days, he helped with opening and closing of the church graves. Thomas attended the public schools of Sumter county. Thomas worked at Sloan Construction Company from 1966 to 2010. He started as a laborer, moved to equipment operator and ended his career as a supervisor. As an employee of Sloan Construction Company, he traveled to various places in and out of the country. Thomas was an entrepreneur. During his employment with Sloan Construction, He operated “Green Briar”, a social club. After retirement from Sloan’s, he was owner and operator of a thriving lawn service, “ Mr. T Lawn Service”. On Friday and Saturday nights, he would always tell his family he was going to work. The family knew he was going to play BINGO, for he was the “unofficial king of BINGO.” In addition to playing BINGO, he was an avid hunter of wild hogs and racoons, and he enjoyed fishing. Thomas was a lifetime member of St Paul Masonic Lodge No.8, Sumter, South Carolina. Thomas was first united in holy matrimony to Annie J. Robinson and to this loving union, six children born. On June 1979, he married Betty A. Miller and they shared a wonderful life together, until her passing in June 2010. In addition to his parents, He was also preceded in death by a son, Andy Lee Miller; a grandson, Herman Logan ; one sister and two brothers. He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his former wife, Annie J. Robinson, Summerville, his son, Thomas (Alice) Miller, Jr. of Sumter, SC, Mary (Greg) Vaughn of Columbia, SC, Jean M. Miller of Summerville, SC, Jacqueline (Vince) Murden of Elgin, SC, and Thomasina (Clarence) Hood of Taylorsville, NC; fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; three sisters, Janie M. Moore of Horatio, SC, Binkey Reynolds of New Haven, CT, and Curlie (Thornton) Waiters of Horatio, SC; six brothers, Gregg Miller, Jr. of Columbia, SC, Ernest (Lula) of Temple Hill, MD, Charles (Annie) Miller of Horatio, SC, Glenn Miller of Rembert, SC, Gerald (Cardean) Miller of Beaufort, SC, and Clyde (Peggy) Miller of Rembert, SC, a special niece, Latrice Felder of Sumter, SC; a host of other close relatives, friends and in-laws.
