Sgt Vincent O'mar Thomas

Sgt. Vincent O’mar Thomas, affectionately known as “Vint”, departed this earthly life on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 in Florence, SC. Born on December 26, 1980 in Sumter, SC, he was a son of Mr. Eddie W. Thomas and Mrs. Gladys Wilson Thomas. Vincent was educated in the public schools of Lee County, where he was a proud student and graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School class of 1999. He was a remarkable student, most notably excelling as a member of the Mt. Pleasant High School Choir, Varsity Basketball and Varsity Football teams. Vincent continued his education at South Carolina State College, Orangeburg, where he matriculated in his studies and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration. As a student at South Carolina State College, he became a proud member of the Omega Psi Fraternity, Inc. Vincent began his Christian walk at an early age and joined Ebenezer A.M.E. Church in Mayesville, SC. After graduation, Vincent lived in Florence, SC where he frequently visited different churches during his Christian walk. Vincent enlisted in the United States Army National Guard in 1998 and was currently serving as a reservist until his untimely death. While in the military he completed a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Vincent was awarded numerous medals while serving in the military: Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Medal (1 OLC), National Defense Service, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” Device, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Service Medal Former Republic of Yugoslavia, South Carolina Meritorious Service Medal, South Carolina Achievement Ribbon, South Carolina Active State Service Medal and Driver and Mechanic Badge. As an Army Reservist, he was employed as a supply specialist, and was currently employed with Amtrak Railway of Florence South Carolina. Vincent enjoyed cooking, traveling, listening to old school music, working out at the gym, watching basketball, football and other sports. He loved spending time with his family and special friends. He was a fun-loving person whose smile opened the hearts of many. He has left an indelible impression on all who have had the pleasure of knowing and loving him. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mr. Nathaniel and Helen Davis Wilson; his paternal grandmother, Ms. Eva Abraham; an aunt, Gwendolyn Thomas; four uncles, Wendolyn Thomas, James Earl Riggins, Nathaniel Wilson and James Wilson. Vincent’s wonderful memories will always remain in the hearts of those who loved and cherished him, especially his devoted parents, Eddie W. Thomas, Charlotte, NC and Gladys Wilson Thomas, Maysville, SC; his two loving sisters, Lori Ann Bolden, Sumter, SC and Moneak M. Thomas, Bishopville, SC; his loving and devoted brother, Eddie Bernard Thomas, Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo; his precious niece, Alexis Thomas, Elloree, SC; his two cherished nephews, Brandon Bolden, Kansas City, MO and Malik Thomas, Sumter, SC; his aunts, Pearl Wilson, New Haven, Conn., Georgiana (James) Dixon and Mable (Harrell) Marshall, Mayesville, SC, Thelma (Robert) Frierson, Tampa, FL, Betty Wilson, Columbia, SC, Evelyn (Melvin) Plowden, Mayesville, SC, Janie Mae (Van) Singleton, Sumter, SC, Gloria (Thomas) Wilson, Costilla Jett, Laureen Phillips, Wanda Abraham and Anterneal Hines, Charlotte, NC; his uncles, Buford (Sandra) Wilson Sr., Richard Wilson, of Mayesville, SC, Robert (Elizabeth) Wilson, Oceanside, CA, Thomas Wilson, Sumter, SC, Allen (Brenda) Thomas, Paul (Mary) Abraham, Johnny (Rachel) Abraham Sr. and Stanley (Phyllis) Abraham Sr., Charlotte, NC; one grand-aunt, Catherine (Douglas) Baxter, Lynchburg, SC; one grand-uncle, Cantfield Davis, Mayesville, SC; two goddaughters, Austyn Bailey Harris and Emersan Skiee Wiindley;and a godson, Rylan”Jack” Gregory Rogers, and numerous cousins, other sorrowing relatives and dear friends.
