Mrs. Addell Singleton Dicks

Addell Singleton Dicks departed this earthly life on Monday, June 27, 2022 in Columbia, South Carolina. She was born March 26, 1925, in Sumter, South Carolina to the late Willie and Georgianna Singleton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willie Dicks Sr., son, Reverend Willie F. Dicks Jr., two sisters, Maggie Coats and Hester Loney, one brother Willie (Rock) Singleton. Addell was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. “Snook”, as she was affectionately known, was baptized at an early age at St. Luke African Methodist Episcopal Church in Sumter. After marrying the love of her life, Willie Dicks Sr., she joined Emmanuel United Methodist Church. As a faithful member of Emmanuel she served as President of the United Methodist Women Ministry, Chairperson of Evangelism, sang on the Senior Choir, was a Communion Steward, and Prayer Band Union member. Addell worked in Sumter as a long time housekeeper (or domestic) for multiple families in the area. She also worked at Campbell Soup Company of Sumter, South Carolina for many years and later retired. She was a feisty, no nonsense, God-fearing person. She not only loved her family, but her extended family circle. Addell loved to laugh and she has an infectious smile. In her spare time, she enjoyed baking-from mincemeat pies to red velvet and German chocolate cakes. Addell had a standard of excellence which she imparted on her children and grandchildren. She also deeply valued education and was present, beaming with pride, when each of them graduated from college. Addell leaves to honor and cherish her memories a son, Reverend John (Beverly) Dicks, Sr., Columbia, South Carolina; a brother Woodrow (Shirley) Singleton, Bronx, New York; granddaughters Melissa Dicks, Charlotte, North Carolina; Keisha (Patrick) Ware, DeSoto, Texas; Adriene Dicks, Atlanta, Georgia; Tomika (AnTwan) Brown, Columbia, South Carolina; Kayla Dicks, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one grandson John (Keisha) Dicks Jr., Sumter, South Carolina; six great grandchildren Saella Ware, Nazire Brown, Tyler Lighty, Nicky Brown, Kaiya Ware and Trinity Dicks; a goddaughter Selena (Leroy) Washington, Sumter, South Carolina; a daughter in love Alice (Al) Davis, Sumter, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that she dearly loved.
