Ms. Alberta Jamison

December 22, 1932 - March 18, 2022

Alberta Jamison entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 18, 2022 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was born on December 22nd, 1932 to the loving union of the Reverend William K. Wilson and Annie L. Cheeseboro-Wilson in Cameron, Calhoun County, South Carolina. Alberta attended Creston School and worked at various jobs. In 1951, she met and married George Jamison Senior and moved to Sumter, South Carolina. She joined St Paul A.M.E. Church of Creston in 2015 under the auspices of Rev. Dr. Frankie D. White. In 1962, the family moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she became a long-time member of the Jones Tabernacle A.M.E. Church in Philadelphia. During the early years, Alberta stayed home and managed the house and children. Later, she went to work for the Philadelphia School District as a Custodian Aide. She worked for over thirty years and retired in 1989. Although she possessed a quiet and calm demeanor, she was a woman of great determination and will. She instilled in her eight children a strong work ethic that enabled them to succeed in life. She loved her family and always found a way to provide and care for them. In her time of leisure, she enjoyed sewing and made a good amount of her children’s clothing; cooking, taking care of her plants and doing crossword puzzles were among her favorite things to do. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Roberta Jamison; and two sisters, Azilee Kennedy and Sarah Gooden. Those left to cherish precious memories are her children, George Jamison, Jr., of Delaware, Julius (Robin) Jamison of New Jersey, Delores Jamison of Pennsylvania, Fredrick Jamison of Maryland, Tony (Melvene) Jamison of New Jersey, JoAnn (Adedoyin) Jamison-Oyelaran, of New York and Michael Jamison of Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren: Brett Jamison, LaWayne Jamison, Ashley Jamison, Whitney Jamison, Lauren Jamison, Lamarr Jones, Justine Jamison and Adekunle Zaki Oyelaran; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine “Betty” Carr of Philadelphia, and Willie Dean Davis of Sumter, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
