Annie Lucile McFadden Ward Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Revelations 21:4 On Tuesday, October 13, 2015, Annie Lucile McFadden Ward departed this earthly life in Los Angeles, California. Lucile, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, was the fourth of five children born to the late James McFadden and Annie Barfield McFadden. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Lucile dedicated her life to serving God and others. Lucile attended the public schools of Sumter County and was a 1970 graduate of Sumter High School. She further her education at the Sumter School of Practical Nursing and graduated in 1972. Always striving toward scholastic excellence, Lucile continued her education at the Sumter Area Technical College where she earned an associate degree in Applied Science in 1976. She was employed at the University of South Carolina (Sumter Campus) for 30 plus years. While employed at the University of South Carolina, she returned to further her education at the Ashworth Career School of Allied Health where she was awarded a diploma in the Professional Medical Transcription Program. Lucile was a lifelong and faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, USA in Alcolu, South Carolina. She accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior in her early youth. She served in many capacities: Deacon Board member where she also served as secretary, assistant Sunday school teacher for the primary and junior classes, Presbyterian Women, worship committee, Senior Choir, nominating committee, and church typist. In addition to her church involvements, she exemplified her commitment to her community as a member of the Red Hill Lodge #15, YMCA AND YWCA where she also served as secretary. In her spare time, Lucile was passionate about staying in touch with Darrin, Kyra, and Elijah through Skype video chat. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, interior decorating, traveling, and enjoying the beach. On August 29, 1981, Lucile met the love of her life and they were united in marriage August14, 1982. This loving union was blessed with two sons, Brandon Scott Ward and Darrin Michael Ward. Lucile was a loving and attentive mother. She was gentle, very soft spoken, enthusiastic and down to earth. She practiced her Christian beliefs by interweaving her spirituality with her daily walk as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Lucile loved God with all her heart, mind and soul servings him faithfully until her death. Her final earthly task was traveling to Hawaii to celebrate the first birthday of her only grandson, Elijah Leonard Ward who was the center of her world. The sun rose and set on her beloved Elijah. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Wesley McFadden, Arthur McFadden and a sister Janie Louise McFadden; Maternal grandparents, Janie Barfield and Harry Barfield, (Rebecca) and Paternal Grandparent, Sarah Ann McFadden. Lucile leaves behind to cherish her memory, love and legacy: her loving and attentive life partner of 34 years, Benjamin "Bennie" Ward of the home; two sons, Brandon Scott Ward of Sumter, SC and Darrin Michael (Kyra) Ward of Honolulu, Hawaii; one grandson, Elijah Leonard Ward; a devoted sister, Elder Gwendolyn (Gwen) McBride of Sumter, SC, and a half-sister, Earline Hicks of Alcolu, SC; one uncle, Walter Barfield (Rosa) of Alcolu, SC; four aunts, Lillie Mae McFadden of Alcolu SC, Rosa Barfield, Alcolu, SC, Robertha Barfield, Queens, New York and Gracie McFadden of Durham, NC, six sisters-in-law, Hattie McFadden, Sumter, SC, Lula M. Chaplin, Christine Williams (Thomas, Sandra Westpoint (Rick), Patricia A. Parker (Bernard) and Annette Ward all of Charleston, SC; two brothers-in-law, Christopher B. Ward, Jr. and Nicholas D. Ward of Charleston, SC; a very close and devoted friend, Betty Rhodes and Margaret G. McFadden of Sumter, SC and a host of nieces, nephews cousins, other relatives and friends.
