Bertha Lee Alston, widow of the late Willie Alston, Sr. was born on November 25, 1926. She was a daughter of the late Arthur and Nellie Bolden Wiley. God in his almighty power, who is too wise to make a mistake and to just to do wrong, saw fit on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at her residence in Dalzell, South Carolina to send his angels to escort Bertha Lee into His Heavenly Kingdom. “We do not weep as those with no hope, but as those who stand on God’s promises to grant us wisdom, understanding, and strength to bear our sorrow” Bertha Lee “Bert” as she was affectionately called by many, joined High Hills AME Church at an early age. She loved the Lord and was very active in the church. She was a member of the Senior Gospel Choir and was also a member of Stewardess Board #2 where she served faithfully until her health failed. Bertha Lee attended the schools of High Hills and Catchall in Sumter, SC. She was employed at High Hills Daycare Center for numerous years until she retired. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one daughter, Alta Mae (Baby Sister) Alston; one son, Raymond Alston; siblings, Helen (Girlie) Wiley, Rosa Lee Davis, Mazie Nettles Bertha Lee leaves to cherish her memory and to celebrate her homegoing, four sons: Abraham Johnny Wiley, Willie Alston, Jr. and Edward (Patricia) Bolden all of Sumter, SC, Matthew Alston, Middletown NY; three daughters: Barbara (Terry) Richardson, Betty Dinkins and Ruth (Lawrence) Dinkins all of Sumter, SC; two sisters in-law: Sarah Rich and Eura Lee Green; one brother in law, Charlie (Shirley) Alston; 32 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandsons and three God children, Mary Roach, Lonnie Kent Wiley and Rodney Prioleau and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
