Elouise McKenzie Baker left this earthly realm for her heavenly home on Monday, July 30, 2018, at Providence Northeast Hospital. Born April 6, 1952, in Sumter, South Carolina, she was the eighth of ten children born to the late Joe McKenzie and Emma Wilson McKenzie. Raised in Lake City, South Carolina, she was a graduate of Lake City High School in the Class of 1970. She attended North Carolina Central University where she studied Business Administration. Later, Elouise attended the Cottell Peters School of Business Administration. In 1971, she met the love of her life in New York, and on June 23, 1973, they married in New York City. To their loving union three sons were born. While in New York City, she was employed by the City of New York and Aetna Life Insurance. In 1975, she relocated Hartford, Connecticut, where she worked for Connecticut General Life Insurance. In 1976, her husband re-enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and Elouise returned to Lake City. In 2005, she relocated to Columbia, and after attending Columbia International University, Elouise joined the Salvation Army and taught Sunday School in Irmo, South Carolina. In her spare time, she enjoyed feeding the homeless, reading and was a prolific writer. She also enjoyed gardening and loved flowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Ophelia Graham and Florence F. Corbett. She leaves to cherish precious memories her husband, Phillip Baker, of the home; three sons: Roshawn Baker, Phillip Lavette Baker, and Leo O'Mar Baker; six grandchildren: Rahasaan Baker, Alexus Baker, Phillip Baker, Jalen Fleming, KonKeisha Frazier, and Raheem Harrison; two great-grandchildren: Royal Baker and Zyien Miller; three sisters: Emma McKenzie, Valeria DuBose, and Jannie Dodd; four brothers: Willie Joe McKenzie, Samuel McKenzie, William McKenzie, and Leo McKenzie; and a host of other relatives who will miss her dearly.
