Elouise Gayle

August 22, 1924 - February 13, 2017

Elouise Gayle departed this earthly life on Monday, February 13, 2017 at the Carriage House of Sumter. Born on August 22, 1924 in Sumter County, she was the second of four children born to the late Edward “Brooks” Gayle and Plum Jackson Gayle. Elouise was educated in the public s schools of Sumter County. Ms. Gayle attended St. Luke Elementary and graduated from Lincoln High School. Elouise accepted Christ at an early age and became an active member of St. Luke A.M.E. Church. Ms. Gayle served in many capacities: Sunday School, Junior Choir, Willing Workers Club, The Allen Christian Endeavor League Missionary, The Home Community Demonstration Club, and the Pastor‘s Aide. In 1960, Elouise migrated to Bayonne, New Jersey in pursuit of a new beginning. She became a proud member of Wallace Temple A.M.E. Church. She loved life and celebrated it with a warm, loving and sweet Christian spirit among her family and friends. Ms. Gayle was a dedicated worker and served for twenty-seven years at Wallace Temple. While in New Jersey, she was employed with Summer Grade Company and retired with much praise, recognition and reward for her outstanding work for twenty-seven years. Elouise returned home to family and St. Luke A.M.E. Church, where she joined in by working diligently and serving wherever she was needed. God gifted her hands and she used them to bake the most delicious cakes, and she loved doing it for her family and others. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant brothers. She leaves to cherish her memories, a loving sister, Lizzie Gayle; two special cousins, Amelia Geddis-Porter, Marie Jackson Pinkney and a host of other relatives and friends.
