Emma Snow Ellis Tolbert

September 25, 1951 - March 6, 2022

Emma Snow Ellis Tolbert transitioned to her heavenly home on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at her residence in Elgin South Carolina. Emma was the eldest of nine children born to the late Adam Snow, Sr. and Gertrude Howard Snow. She was raised in the Claremont Community and attended Willow Grove A.M.E. Church in Horatio, South Carolina, during her youth. Emma was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. In the early 70’s she met and married the late Preston Ellis, Sr. and to this union three children were born. Later in life, she was married to the late Robert “Bobby” Tolbert. After relocating to Boston MA, in the early 80’s, she earned a Degree in Accounting and was employed at Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) for twenty (20 plus) years, retiring 2010. Emma had a strong religious faith and attended Holy Tabernacle in Dorchester, MA. She later joined Hill City Church in Providence, RI where she served as a Deacon and was graced to be chosen as the “Mother of the Church”. While a member of Hill City Church, Emma performed Missionary duties in Ghana, West Africa. Emma enjoyed life and was a loving, caring and selfless woman. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader for many years in Dorchester, MA and a Board Member for Parents United in Boston, MA. In her leisure time she loved, shopping, music, traveling, cooking, and caring for her family. Emma was goal oriented and pursued her dream of owning her own home in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. In 2018, Emma returned “home” to South Carolina and resided in Camden/Elgin. She enjoyed being “home” in South Carolina and treasured making lasting memories by spending quality time with her family and she enjoyed hosting family cookouts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Adam Snow, Jr., Joseph Snow, Moses Snow and Bernard Snow. Those left to cherish her precious and fond memories are her children: Preston Ellis, Boston MA, Michelle Ellis, Elgin, SC; and Michael Ellis, Elgin, SC; 9 grandchildren: Monayscha Ellis, Elgin SC; Marcus Ellis, Elgin, SC; Simone Ellis, Boston, MA; Jamani Ellis, Elgin, SC; Ava Nicole Ellis, Randolph, MA; Noah Alexander Ellis, Randolph, MA; Maniya Ellis Salem, MA; Olivia Grace Ellis, West Warwick, RI ;siblings: Jeffrey (Myra) Snow, Mary Tolbert, John Snow, all of Rembert, SC and Mamie Lee Arthur Anthony Snow of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; two aunts: Renda Dixon, Rembert, SC and Mamie Lee Arthur of Columbia, SC; Uncles: Lewis (Emma) Howard of Rembert, SC; John (Dornell) Miller of Suitland, MD; and Henry Howard of Staten Island, New York; and a host of nieces, nephews , other relatives and friends.
