March 30, 1942 - December 29, 2017
Mrs. Frances Doretha Kennedy White, affectionately known as Doe, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 29, 2017, in Columbia. Born March 30, 1942, in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late James Kennedy, Sr. and the Rosalee Taylor Kennedy. Doretha was educated in the public schools of Richland County, South Carolina, and attended C.A. Johnson High School. She was employed by the City of Columbia Police Department and Hyatt Park Elementary School for many years. Doretha was a faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church under Reverend Fair and later under Reverend Doctor Michael Ross where she served as a member of the Usher Board. Doe was also a member of the Capital City Organization. She enjoyed decorating her home, spending time with family and friends, and watching home improvement shows on television. Doretha was truly a very devoted mother and is lovingly remembered by her son, George Kennedy, Jr., of Decatur, GA; two sisters: Edith McKnight and Irene Hunter, both of Columbia; a brother, Eddie Kennedy of Columbia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.
