Freeman Singletary, Jr.
December 15, 1939 - April 30, 2016
Freeman “Sonny Boy” Singletary, 76, departed this earthly life on April 30, 2016, at the Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. Born on December 15, 1939, in Lake City, South Carolina, he was the first of six children born to Mrs. Alie Fair Brown Singletary and the late Freeman Howard Singletary, Sr. During Freeman’s youth, he was cared for by his mother and father. Later in January of 1955, he was admitted to Midland Center in Columbia, SC. where he resided in the following residences: Magnolia, Walnut, and Palm. “Mr. Freeman”, as he was called by so many at Midlands Center, was accustomed to entertaining himself. He enjoyed rocking to the music he created within himself, and he had a quiet sense of humor. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him. In addition to his father, Freeman was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Singletary. He leaves to cherish precious memories: his beloved mother, Mrs. Allie Brown Singletary of Winston Salem, NC; two devoted brothers, Norman (Irene) Singletary of Florence, SC and James Allen Singletary (his fiancé Audrey) of Clemmons, NC; two sisters, Cyvonne Singletary of Lake City, SC and Margaret (Charles) Perkins of Florence, SC.; three nephews; six nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
