Heaven has welcomed another soul… Jacob Roy Jones, Sr., departed his earthly home on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at Pruitt Healthcare in Ridgeway, South Carolina. The youngest child of Jacob and Jessie Lee Jones, he was born November 25, 1929, in Newberry, South Carolina. Affectionately known as “Tiny,” he was educated in Richland County public school system, graduating from his beloved Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1949. There, he played football and mastered the art of brick masonry. After high school, he joined the United States Army, where he played football in his regimen, serving mostly in the southeast region of the country. Jacob R. Jones was a man full of heart, helping many along his faith journey. He never met a stranger; he was a lifelong member of Friendship AME Church serving as Steward, Trustee, and Class Leader. He loved Jesus and always praised his Savior. Mr. Jones owned and operated several businesses including: Jones Construction Company, Jacob Jones Brick Masonry, and Jones Garbage & Container Service until his retirement. He loved vanilla ice cream, apple pie, and hot dogs with chili. He never missed the South Carolina State Fair, riding an elephant on his last trip. he won many awards including: Seven Oaks Community Service, Garden Clubs In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife Rosemary Simmons Jones; his son Alfred F. Jones; grandson Ricky Nickles, III; brothers: Lawrence C. Jones and Thomas Lee Jones; sisters: Mary M. Jones and Barbara Jones Ivey; sister-in-law Minnie Jones; and brother-in-law Richard Ivey. His pride and joy will forever reside in his children left to cherish his memory of charity and good will: Jacob R. Jones, Jr., Dr. Deborah (Isaiah) Davis, Lawrence C. Jones, Sylvia (Victor) Jones Stewart of Anderson, Rose LaTonia (Rickey) Nickles, II, Michael (Sandra) Jones of Lugoff, Audrey M. Jones, Kathleen M. (Oswaldo) Rivera of Germany, Michael Haltiwanger, Loressa (Kevin) Jenkins of St. Matthews; his brother Jimmie C. Jones, Sr. of Florida; sisters-in-law: Estoria T. Jones and Jennie Simpkins; brothers-in-law: Robert Simmons and Dalbert Simmons; 20 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
