Frank Lee
February 15, 1927 - January 11, 2017
Frank Lee, son of the late Bogan Lee and Lena Benjamin Lee was born the sixth of ten children blessed to this union on February 15, 1927 in Sumter, SC. He later attended the public schools of Sumter County. At an early age, Frank confessed Jesus Christ as his savior at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Rembert, SC. It was there that Frank met the love of his life, the former Wilhelmina McCall Grant in 1947. The two were united in matrimony on December 7, 1949, and to this union, three children were born. Continuing his faith walk after relocating to the nation’s capital, Frank began to worship at Carolina Baptist Church while being employed by DC General Hospital as both an orderly and nursing assistant. Always striving to improve life for his family, Frank also drove a taxicab and subsequently built a lucrative tour guide business in the nation’s capital city. After retirement, Frank returned to South Carolina with his wife, where in his spare time he enjoyed football (as an avid Redskins fan) and checkers. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years; his son Rickey Ricardo Lee; five brothers; and four sisters. Frank leaves to cherish precious memories his children: Ernestine (Harvey Rogers) Middleton and Derelle (Donna) Lee, both of Columbia; five grandchildren: Ricardo (Kyra) Lee, Bakari (Silvia) Middleton of Washington, DC, Zakiya Middleton of Columbia, SC, Christopher Lunsford, and Jasmine Lee, a great-grandson, Kamran Lee; five sisters-in-law: Alzalee Gray of Washington, DC, Bertha Alston, Mary Singleton, Annie McCall, and Ruby Deschamps, all of Sumter; three brothers-in-law: Olin McCall, Reverend Jerry McCall, and Clarence McCall, all of Sumter; a cousin raised as his sister, Esther Gardner; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
