Lois Jeanette Stewart

June 27, 1930 - February 9, 2017

Mrs. Lois Jeanette Stewart was born on June 27, 1930, in Columbia, South Carolina. She peacefully entered into eternal rest on February 9, 2017, at Providence Health. Lois, twin to Thelma, was the fifth of ten children born to the late William and Luna Martin Goodwine. She was a lifelong member of Zion Baptist Church where she served as a member of the Pastor’s Aid Club. Mrs. Stewart attended public school in Columbia and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. Lois worked for National Linen Service approximately 25 years. She started with NLS in 1956, worked four years, and left in 1960 to travel. She returned in 1971 and worked until retirement. The former Lois Goodwine married Army SDC Sammie Stewart on December 25, 1960. Sammie and Lois enjoyed military life. His tours of duty took them to Seaside, California; Hanau, Germany; and Aberdeen, Maryland. Mrs. Stewart enjoyed spending time with family and friends, keeping up with current events both local and national, and shopping. She was often admired for her youthful appearance and sense of style. She was a member of the Newcastle Concerned Citizens, Inc. of Columbia, South Carolina, and the Howard School Club. Lois was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Edward Goodwine, Theodore Goodwine, and Herbert Goodwinw; her sisters: Ruth Goodwine, Dorothy Thompson, Thelma Mack, and Juanita Young. Lois Jeanette Stewart leaves to cherish her memory her daughters: Delores (Mervin) Antoine of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Diane (Gordon) McRae of Columbia; her grandchildren: Mervin (Deneen) Antoine, II, Darius Antoine, Sara Antoine, all of Lafayette, and Maraneka McRae and David McRae, both of Columbia; her great-grandchildren: Alonte Landry, Lyrik Richard, Blythe Richard, Ryjah Richard, Ryu Richard, all of Layfayette, and Jeremiah Davis and Keagan Davis, both of Columbia; her brother, William (Minnie) Goodwine of Columbia; her brother-in-law, Roy (Eveline) Stewart of Charlotte, North Carolina; her sister-in-law, Edna Smith of Pineville, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
