August 31, 1952 - January 8, 2020
Micheal Leroy Brumfield, son of the late Leroy and Verdell Saunders Brufield, was born August 31, 1952, in Columbia, South Carolina, and transitioned January 8, 2020. While growing up in the Greenview Community, Micheal attended Richland One Public Schools and graduated from C.A. Johnson High School. He continued his education at Saint Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Virginia, where he graduated with a degree in History. At Saint Paul's, Micheal played football and was named an All-Conference defensive back. He continued with graduate studies at Webster University in Columbia and later graduated from Benedict College's teachers program. Micheal worked many years in communications at Bell South Telephone Company, He later worked for Richland School Districts One and Two, City of Columbia Parks and Recreation, and most recently Richland County Election Commission. CO-founder of the Greater Columbia Tennis Association, Micheal was an avid tennis player. He played throughout the southeastern United States and was well known for his aggressive playing style of tennis, temperament and all! He also played with the Volvo Tennis League (later known as the United States Tennis Association). Micheal, a life-long member of Reid Chapel AME Church, was the first president of Reid Chapel's Sons of Allen, appointed by the late Rev. James R. Glover; worked with the Pack 210 Boy Scouts; sang on the Men's and the Concert Choirs; and was member of the Hospitality Committee. In addition to his parents, Micheal's younger brother Mondus Brumfield and older sister Ruby George preceded him in death. Micheal leaves to cherish his memory his wife Ava; son Renard; stepdaughter Angela Marie Pacley; stepson Reginald Pacley; step granddaughters: Sade, Victoria, and Raquel; brother Nicholas (Patricia) Brumfield; two sisters: Reba Goodwin and Gale Pressley; son-in-law Carleton Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews.
