Norbert Tomlin

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens: a time to be born, a time to die: a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance….” Ecclesiastes 3: 1-4 Mr. Norbert Tomlin entered into his eternal rest on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, South Carolina. Born on July 13, 1958 and raised in Alcolu, South Carolina, Norbert was the youngest of eleven children born to the late Isham Tomlin and Dora Davis Tomlin. Norbert was educated in the public Schools of Sumter County and attended Mayewood High School. He enjoyed worshipping at Mt. Nebo Baptist and Westminster Presbyterian (USA) Churches, both in Alcolu. Norbert was affectionately known in childhood as “Cookie” and later in his adulthood as “Big Stew”. He was a man of many talents. During his life span, he held several jobs that first began at Santee Print Company, RTA Transportation, and as the maintenance person for Charles Riley Real Estate Company, all in the Sumter Community. After retirement, he became his own boss as a self-employed Carpenter. In his spare time, his hobbies included: playing horseshoes, checkers, fishing with his friends and family; and of course making and patio furniture. Norbert was loved by all his family and friends and will sincerely be missed by them; along with his loving companion, Camille Singletary. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Dorothy and Vera Tomlin and two brothers: Willie and Alford Tomlin. Those left to cherish his precious memories are his children: Norbertstina Tomlin and Norbert Tomlin, Jr. both of Anderson, SC; a sister, Wilhemena Logan. Atlanta, GA ; six brothers: Robert Tomlin, James H. Tomlin, Wilber Tomlin all of Gable and Walter(Jacqueline) Tomlin , Sumter, SC , Wallace Tomlin, Atlanta, GA and Peter G, (Irma) Tomlin of Louisiana; a loving companion of the home, Camille Singletary and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
