Pearl McKnight Brunson

Pearl McKnight Brunson departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at her niece’s home in Sumter, South Carolina. Born on November 23, 1938 in Pinewood, South Carolina, she was one of fourteen children born to the late Samuel McKnight and Mary Benjamin McKnight and was the wife of the late Lee Ernest Brunson. Pearl was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a self-employed domestic worker and farmer. At an early age, Pearl knew the importance of having faith in God. She became a life-long member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a missionary. Pearl’s hobbies were cooking the famous soul food from her own home grown garden and farming. She was known for her special dishes of macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, collard greens and the family’s recipe of the delicious homemade hash and rice; passed down from her late husband, Lee Ernest and other family members. Pearl was loved by all her family and she will be sincerely missed from all the family gatherings around her kitchen table. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: six sisters and seven brothers; five aunts and three uncles. Those left to cherish her precious memories are three sons: Frankie L. Brunson, George McKnight and Willie (Stephanie) McKnight; two grandchildren: Lavaron, and Erica Johnson; and one great-grandchild, Damarion Johnson and sister, Georgia McKnight, all of Pinewood, SC; brother, James McKnight, Charlotte, NC and a very special niece, loved as a daughter, Betty McKnight, Sumter, SC; a special nephew, Ruben Mitchell, Jr. , Thomasville, NC; another special niece, Doretha Smoot, Sumter, SC; two aunts, Camilla Canty, Rimini, SC and Ethel McCray, Aiken, SC; uncle, Joe Benjamin, New York; brother in-law, Ruben Mitchell, Sr,, Petersberg, VA; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
