July 3, 1929 - January 24, 2021
Once again, the Lord has called a worthy soul from earthly labor to heavenly reward. Rebecca Metze Anderson peacefully departed her earthly life on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at the home of her daughter. Born July 3, 1929, in Richland County, South Carolina, Rebecca was the eleventh of twelve children born to the late Charlie Levi Oliver Metze and Leila Viola Bouknight Metze Bowman. She was a proud graduate of Lakeview High School in West Columbia, South Carolina. She enjoyed spending time her family: traveling, playing board games, having family dinners, and attending her grandsons' sporting events. She was very involved in her children's lives as a fixture in the PTA at Richlex High School and other schools in Lexington-Richland District Five. Her family received constant love and unwavering support. While Rebecca worked for a brief time outside the home, her full-time job was her dedicated care of her children and grandchildren. Rebecca was a lifelong member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Irmo, South Carolina. She joyfully served in various organizations most of her life. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society, the Jubilee Choir, served on the Steward Board (Emeritus), served on the Stewardess Board, and was a Sunday School teacher. Rebecca served as an active member of the Willing Workers Community Organization. She had a love of giving to charities that enhanced the lives of children and those with disabilities through St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Easter Seals. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband of fifty-three years, Jesse Anderson Sr.; six sisters: Ruth M. Jenkins, Emmaline Metze, Carrie M. Query, Maggie M. Hope, Florence M. Reeves, and Leila M. Bull; five brothers: Samuel Metze, Olin Metze, Robert A. Metze, James Earl Metze, and Melvin Levi Metze. She leaves to cherish precious memories her five loving children: Shirley (Larry) Haltiwanger, Linda A. Wright, Rev.
