Mr. Roosevelt Aaron

A Life Well Lived Roosevelt Aaron, was born on April 23, 1948 in Montgomery, Alabama to the union of Eugene Aaron, Sr. and Gertrude Holt, Aaron. He was the older of the eight (8) children born to this union. He was preceded in death by his parents, former wife and mother of his three (3) children, Barbara Douglas Aaron, brother, Richard Charles Aaron, brother-in-laws; Lonnie Walker, Lee Brown, and James Bailey. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Toynette Aaron Coachman (Robert), Roosevelt Michael Aaron, and Joseph Matthew Aaron; his grandchildren: Amira, Shaniya, Brooklynn, Chavis, Janece, Kailen, Joseph, II, Rhylah, and great grandson, Adrian. Also left to cherish his memory are his siblings; Helen Brown, of Springfield, Massachusetts, Fred Holt, Sr. (Gail), of Belchertown, Massachusetts. /Barefoot, Florida, Betty J. Bailey, Jerome Aaron, Bernice Walker, Eugene Aaron (Gail), William Aaron, all of Columbia, South Carolina, and Larry Aaron, Charlotte, North Carolina, Mae Rendi Miller, Vergie Brown, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ike Aaron (Rose) of Prattville, Alabama, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Roosevelt was educated in the Montgomery school system, where in high school, and based on academic achievements, he was one of the first group of African American students selected from Carver High School to integrate the segregated Sidney Lanier Sr. High School of Montgomery, Alabama. He later attended Springfield Technical Community College of Springfield, Massachusetts. After relocating to Springfield, Massachusetts, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he spent seventeen (17) years, serving with the 82 Airborne Division, and achieved his highest rank of Sergeant E-6, he was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War, where during his services in the military he earned and was awarded numerous citations, medals and commendations that included: Good Conduct Metal (05th award), Army Commendation Metal, National Defense Service Metal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon w/numeral 2, two Overseas Forces Expeditionary metals, Vietnam Service Metal w/4 Service Stars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, Bronze Star Metal, Overseas Service Ribbon w/numeral 2, Combat Infantry Badge, Parachute Badge, Armed Gallantry w/Palm and Armed Forces Expeditionary Metal. After his military service, Roosevelt relocated to Springfield, Massachusetts where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service, until his retirement. After retirement he relocated to North Carolina to be close to his daughter, before finally move to Columbia, South Carolina, to be close to his siblings, where he resided until his death on June 15, 2022. The family express their appreciation and gratitude to Roosevelt’s sister, Betty Bailey, and his niece, Monique Aaron for their commitment, dedication, and compassionate care that they provided during the last several years of Roosevelt’s declining health.
