Ruth Oxendine Ramsey Lane

September 8, 1945 - January 20, 2020

Ruth Oxendine Ramsey Lane was born September 8, 1945 in Wedgefield, South Carolina. Ruth accepted Christ at an early age at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Wedgefield. Ruth Attended Orangehill Elementary School in Wedgefield. Later she moved to Washington, D.C. with her oldest sister Magoline Ramsey and her husband Damon. There she attended Eliot and Paul Junior High Schools. Ruth attended Metropolitan A.M.E. Church, participating in Sunday School and the Young People Division of the Church. She graduated in 1964 from Calvin Coolidge High School. After graduating, she attended The LaWanda Beauty School of Cosmetology. She worked in many beauty salons in the Metropolitan area. Later she left the cosmetology profession and started a new career in the Federal Government, working at the Department of Justice. She had early disability retirement. Ruth was married to the late Stanley Roger Lane. There were no children born to the union, however Stan became a loving step father to a step son Tracy. Ruth spent a great portion of her life in Bowie, Maryland. She often attended Reid Temple A.M.E. Church Ruth was kind and very motherly to any child she met. Ruth enjoyed socializing with family and making them laugh. She was the family comedienne. She had a special bond with all of her nieces and nephews. There was nothing she would not do for them. Ruth enjoyed listening to old musical sounds of the 50’s and 60’s. Her favorite artist was Stevie Wonder. She loved solving cross word puzzles and word mazes. She was an awesome bid whist and backgammon player. She was also an avid Redskins fan. Those who celebrate her life and legacy include: One son, Tracy R. Ramsey, his special companion, Adowa D. Coleman, one granddaughter Taylor Mary Ramsey, two sisters, Pearl (William) Henderson, Frances A. Oxendine, Four brothers, Harrison (Bobbie) Oxendine, Willie L.(Joan) Oxendine, DellieB. Oxendine, Laval (Alice) Oxendine, eight nieces, ten nephews, twenty seven great nieces, twenty nine great nephews, eight great-great nieces, nine great-great, nephews, two great-great- great, nieces, and four great- great- great nephews.
