Theodore James Wilder

On Monday, July 9, 2018, Theodore (Ted) James Wilder left this earthly place for his heavenly home. Born January 31, 1931, in Gainesville, Florida, he was the second oldest of six children born to the late Maceo and Idella Joyce Wilder. He was a graduate of Campbell High School and Northeastern University. Ted was employed as a drafter by the Polaroid Company for over twenty-five years in Boston, Massachusetts, before his retirement. After retiring, Ted relocated to the warmer climes of Columbia, South Carolina. Ted enjoyed road trips, long walks, cigars, barbecue and jazz music. He was an amazing husband to wife Johnnie Knight for twenty years and a devoted dad. He adored his family and his cat Stormy. "Mr. Ted," as he was known throughout the neighborhood, enjoyed debate and deep thought-provoking discussions. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings. He leaves to cherish precious memories his wife of 20 years, Johnnie Knight Wilder; a daughter Vanessa Denise Wilder; 4 siblings: Gloria Wilder Brown, Eric M. (Elexzena) Wilder; Gail Wilder (Leon) Jenkins, and Leila D. Wilder; and other relatives. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the NAACP.
