Thomasina Christina Hunter Williams

June 14, 1938 - January 6, 2021

Mrs. Thomasina Christina Hunter Williams departed this earthly life for her heavenly reward on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at Prisma Health Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter, SC. Born in Sumter County on June 14, 1938, she was the second eldest daughter of the later Elsie Hunter Miller and Julius Miller, Sr. Thomasina was educated in the public schools of Sumter County, (Willow Grove Elementary, Horatio, SC; High Hill, High School and later transferred to Ebenezer High School, Dalzell, SC, where she graduated in 1958. During her youth and young adult life, Thomasina attended Willow Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church and High Hill African Methodist Episcopal Church faithfully with her mother and grandmother. In 1960, Thomasina moved to Washington, D.C. seeking greater opportunities for life. In the years to come, she would start her long career in the federal government, where she served for more than twenty nine years in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), as a Document Analyst. She received many awards, plaques and certificates and was well respected by her colleagues and peers. In 1961, Thomasina met Frank Williams and the couple wedded in 1964. This union bore three sons and together they purchased a new home for their growing family. During her years in Washington, D.C. Thomasina attended Paramount Baptist Church, where all her sons were baptized. After her retirement in 2003, she moved to South Carolina to join her husband who retired 2002. They re-joined Willow Grove A.M.E. Church, where she served faithfully in many capacities. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and arts and crafts. She was also passionate about spending many hours with her beloved family. In addition to her parents, Thomasina was preceded in death by a son, Nathaniel Arness Williams; brothers: Julius Miller, Jr., Leon Murray and Luscious Miller; sister, Hallie Viola; grandmother, Netter R. Hunter and mother-in-law, Harriett Williams Ricks. Thomasina leaves to cherish precious memories, a loving and devoted husband, Frank Williams; eldest son, Franklin Antonio Williams of Washington DC and youngest son, Kenneth A. Williams, Snellville, GA; her two granddaughters: Kari Williams & Candyss Williams; six brothers and sisters: Tommy (Susie) Miller, Charles D. (Christine) Miller, Michael L.(Shrirrie) Miller, Alice Hamilton, Columbia, SC; Wilhelmenia E. Miller, Dora B. (Donald) Palmer all of Horatio, SC ; and a host of nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
