Velda Deloris Workman

Mrs. Velda Deloris Johnson Workman, daughter of the late Mr. Louis Grant, Ms. Edith Johnson Nickens and the late Mr. Willie Nickens departed this earthly life peacefully on August 21, 2020 at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, SC . Mrs.Velda is the wife of the late Mr. David Workman. Mrs. Velda was born on December 18th 1960, in Sumter S.C. At an early age, Velda joined Rafting Creek Baptist Church, in Rembert, SC. She was later baptized & accepted Christ into her life. Velda was a graduate of Sumter High School, class of 1980. After graduating, Velda married Mr. David Workman in 1982. Mrs. Workman worked as a skilled laborer with a multitude of skills. Velda was a dedicated mother and wife. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with her family. She especially loved her role as “grandma”. Her favorite pastimes were attending church, decorating, shopping, cooking, listening to gospel music and spending time with her loving family. Ames. Workman’s life was a living example of her favorite bible verse “Psalm 18:1-2” Velda’s number one quote “God is my rock”. She truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. She was preceded in death, fathers’ Lewis Grant and Willie Nickens, her beloved husband David Workman, brother-in-law Charlie Workman and aunt, Emma Sanders. Mrs. Velda is survived by her loving mother, Ms. Edith J. Nickens of Sumter, SC, her two sons, David “Pistol” Johnson (DeeDee) of Sumter, SC, Master Sargent Zavier Willis (Angel) of Fayetteville, NC. Two daughters, Rovelda Lachanta Workman (Brian) of Sumter, SC and Shadona Yvonne Workman (Te’yan) of Sumter, SC. Seven beautiful grandchildren that she adored, Alaysia “Lay-Lay” Woods, Na’talia “Nana” Burroughs, Ashlynn “Ash” Mason, David “Lil David” Johnson, Wesley, Ajanae and Tahlee Willis of Fayetteville, NC; two sisters, Natalie Golden and Tracy Nickens, both of Sumter, SC; two brothers, Darrell Nickens of Portsmouth, VA and Marcus “Cisco” Nickens, of Sumter, SC. She leaves behind a special cousin that she loved, admired profoundly and respectfully as a sister, Teresa Washington. Mrs. Velda leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to cherish her loving fond memories. She loved them all and touched very deeply. Special friends she truly admired and adored, Citronella Smith, Barbara Kennedy, Evonne Maple, Marie Green, Edith Kelly, Barbara Parkinson and Alfred Bradley.
