Virginia Morris Williams

Virginia Sewell Williams, 97, departed her earthly home on Monday, February 8, 2016 in Lexington, SC. She was the second oldest of fourteen children born in Lexington, SC to the late Joseph P. Sewell and Annie Bell Sligh Sewell on December 28, 1918. She was married to Hugh Holmes and from this union they had one daughter, Veora Holmes- Hutchins. Virginia moved to New York City in 1940 where she lived with her oldest sister, Gladys Sewell Corley. She was naturally talented in the art of sewing and became an accomplished seamstress at Best Forms Foundation. She possessed the gift of sewing and enjoyed being able to so for her family and friends. Virginia later married James Williams Jr. and resided in Queens, New York until they both retired and moved back to Lexington, SC to take care of her mother, the late Annie Bell Sewell. Virginia was profound in her Christian faith; she loved the Lord and enjoyed serving him and attending Church. She was a loving and generous soul with a calm, sweet, and easy- going demeanor that made knowing her a joy. She lived her testament, and one of her favorite scriptures was, Mark: 12:30-31, which states, “ And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength; this is the first commandment. And second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these". Virginia would often say be good to one another and love each other and that is exactly what she did. At an early age, Virginia accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at New Mount Zion AME Church in Lexington, SC. During her stay in New York she joined Salem Methodist Church where she was an active member in Class #9. After moving back to South Carolina in 1982, she rejoined New Mount Zion AME Church in Lexington, SC and was active in several organizations; Sunday School, Stewardess Board and was a Member of the Choir. Virginia leaves to cherish her memories, her loving daughter, Veora Hutchins ; two Granddaughters, Deborah James and Pamela James - Kincaid ; Grandson-in-Law, Paul Kincaid; three Great- Grandchildren, Peachez James- Beckford, Paul Kincaid Jr. and Trevon Kincaid ; Great Grand-in- Law, James Beckford; Four Great- Greatgrands; two Sisters, Annie Martha Corley and Shirley Law; Four Brothers, Horace Sewell, Robert Sewell, Donald Sewell and Isiah Sewell ; Nephew and Godson, Douglas Dervin and a host of other loving family members and friends.
