Mrs. Annie Mason

Annie Mason, wife of the late Lamar Mason, departed this early life on June 22,2022 at Levine Dickson Hospice House at Southminster in Charlotte, North Carolina. Born in Marlboro County, she was the second of three (3) children born to the late Bob and Lula Ryles. Raised in Bennettsville, South Carolina, she attended the Public Schools and graduated from Marlboro High School. After High School she earned a degree in education from Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina. Annie met and married the love of her life Lamar Mason and to this loving union a daughter, Perilla, who was affectionately called Pam was reared. It was her marriage to Mr. Mason that brought her to Columbia where they first lived on Oak Street and later moved to Greenview neighborhood. They shared a wonderful life together until his passing on October 31, 2006. Mrs. Mason affectionately known as “MeMe” was a great late mother and grandmother. She went the extra mile to express her love in thoughtful ways. Her grandchildren always had a special treat when they would visit her from Charlotte. Annie was comical and had a great sense of humor yet serious when she needed to be. There was never a doubt on matters that concerned her. Annie was a lifelong member of First Nazareth Baptist Church where she served in many capacities including: Deaconess Ministry, Missions Ministry, Director of Vacation Bible School, Member of the National Association of the Baptist Convention, Progressive National Baptist Convention, FNBC Fifty Year Member and Vineyard Workers Ministry. She was an Educator who taught in Saluda County Public Schools for over 35 years. In Richland County, she worked with the WIN Program for GED/Adult Education. In her spare time, she was an advocate for both the Heart and Cancer Associations. Annie was very active in the Greenview Park Community where she enjoyed line dancing and other senior activities. She was also a poll worker at the Greenview voting location. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Perilla Reid, and a brother Chip Ryles. Annie leaves to cherish precious memories her daughter Perilla “Pam”, Bob Woods of Charlotte, North Carolina; two (2) granddaughters Jasmine Woods and Alexis Woods both of Lexington, Kentucky; goddaughter Priscilla Staley and Rosilyn Outen who was like a daughter, both of Columbia, South Carolina and a host of other relatives and friends.
