Mr. Carlos Jermaine Sumpter

LIFE REFLECTIONS A TIME TO BE BORN Carlos Jermaine Sumpter was born on January 17th, 1974 in Myrtle Beach, SC to Leadea (Sumpter) Kershaw and the late Calvin "Bay Rat" Rogers. A TIME TO LIVE AND LEARN Carlos Sumpter received his education from the public school system of Horry County, graduating from Myrtle Beach High School in 1993. From early on he had a passion for art, loving to draw, music, playing four instruments, and basketball. When it came to basketball, he was a powerhouse. While attending Socastee High School he scored the winning shot against Myrtle Beach and while attending Myrtle Beach he scored the winning shot against Socastee High School, winning not one but two state championships. He even played against NBA basketball player Rasheed Wallace in the Beach Ball Classic and beat him. He did face many trials though leading him to become incarcerated. He did not let that stop him though. contact with his family he would frequently send home drawings that he had made with words of encouragement. He faithfully attended church every Sunday that he could and earned his certificate for commissary. He did not allow his trials to define him. Upon his release in March of 2023 he set of to write his redemption story(after getting his McDonald's ice cream). He got his driver's license, purchased a car, finished writing his book, and September of 2023 he got married. His greatest accomplishments and pride and joy though was connecting with his daughter, and hugging his mom again. A TIME TO DIE Carlos's life was cut short on March 16th, 2024 at 6:15 am., when he ws hit and killed by a car. A TIME TO MOURN Carlos's loving memories and legacy live on through his wife Patricia Sumpter, his mother Leaded Kershaw (Ray) of Sumter, SC, daughter Shakayla Dainels, granddaughter Grayce Floyd both of Barnwell, SC, sister Khadija Kershaw of Florence, SC, four brothers; Raymond Wilkins of Charleston, SC, Cedric Rogers(Kim), Darell Rogers both of Pee Dee, SC, Rodney Spain of Bucksport, SC, five aunts; Ganie Goss of Myrtle Beach, SC, Ruby DreuxAndre) of Lexington, KY, Azalee Davis, Margaree Rogers both of Spartanburg, SC, Ursell Rogers of Newhaven, CT, four uncles; Gary Butler of Columbia, SC, Charles Sumpter (Etrulia) of Pee Dee, SC, Edward Dingle(Gwen) of AL EuGene Dingle(Darlene) of Myrtle Beach, SC, seven nieces, nine nephews, close friend and mentor Tom "Pops" Rex (Karen) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and a host of cousins and friends.
