Dorothy Lee Chapman Corley

Mrs. Dorothy Lee Chapman Corley was born February 25, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA. She was a daughter of the late John E. and Lizzie McClellan Chapman. Dorothy departed this life on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. Dorothy attended Douglas Singley Elementary, Robert Vaux Junior High of Philadelphia, PA, Lakeview High School, West Columbia, SC and Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina. Dorothy retired in 1991 from Allied chemical in Columbia, South Carolina where she was a lab technician. Dorothy married Samuel Corley on March 5, 1955. From this union, two children were born: Andreas J. Corley and Kim M. Corley Dorothy was a faithful member of Turner Memorial AME Church where she served as a member of the Steward Board, Women's Missionary Society and was a class leader. She served as a member of the Turner Child Development School Board, ACE League, Benevolent Committee Lay Organization, long time member of the ABWA, RED HAT Society, member of Club 24, Sunday school Teacher, chairperson of the Florist Committee and Communion Supplies. Dorothy organized the WMS Wheel of Missions, WMS "Ladies Night Out", Senior Citizens Dinner and Christmas baskets. She was awarded Turner Memorial woman of the Year in 1999 and received the Sarah Allen Torch Lighter Award in 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents; as well as, a brother, Robert Elonzo Chapman and a grandson, Alexander julian Corley. Dorothy leaves to cherish precious memories: her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Samuel Morris Corley; a son, Andreas (Sandra) Corley of Columbia; two daughters, Kim Monique Corley, Columbia, SC and Helen (Randy) Anthony, Jenkinsville, SC; three brothers, Johnnis Earl (Mary, Columbia, Wallace Daniel (Ethel) Chapman, Grady, AL and William Jerome (Christine) Chapman, Columbia, SC; a special cousin, Bernice Luck of Philadelphia, PA; eleven grandchildren, Shacara M. Corley, Cameron J. Corley, Lavetta (Chris) May, Randy Anthony, Jr., Kamisha Anthony, YaVonda (James) Jefferson, Sheree Anthony, Michael Anthony, Kerry Anthony, Benjamin Anthony and Chris Chambers; fourteen great grandchildren; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law, James B. (Annie Ruth) Corley, Baltimore, MD, Clayton (Annie Martha) Corley, Akron, OH, Charles (Helen) Corley, Rochester, NY, Francine (Willie) Chambers, Portsmouth, VA, Lillie Mae Gibson, Philadelphia, PA, Myrna Corley, Columbia, SC and Marlena Corley, Baltimore, MD; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins and dear friends.
