Mrs. Elizabeth Miller Murray

Elizabeth Janie Miller Murray, 90, of Horatio, South Carolina, peacefully entered eternal rest on Monday, December 1, 2025, in Horatio, SC. Elizabeth was born on August 5, 1935, in Horatio (also known locally as "Horation", South Carolina. She was the beloved daughter of the late Greg "Bo" Miller and Rebecca "Byrd" Gathers. She was the granddaughter of the late Robert Miller, Jr. and Binkey Brunson Miller, and the great-granddaughter of the late Robert Miller, Sr. and Margaret Miller. As the oldest of thirteen (13) children, Elizabeth learned early the meaning of responsibility, perseverance, and service. Elizabeth was known for her generous spirit and the care she poured into others. She enjoyed gardening, cooking for her family, her church, and the community, and she also had a gift for catering. She loved reading and took special pride in researching genealogy-preserving family history and helping others understand where they came from. A devoted servant-leader, Elizabeth was always active in both her church and her community. She was instrumental in securing the church deed and worked tirelessly to strengthen and preserve the legacy of her community. Her dedication could be seen through the many roles she faithfully carried, including: Chairperson of the Committee that Cleaned the Old Cemetery; Chairperson for the Development of the Willow Grove Community Park; Chairperson of the first (1st) Church Anniversary; Committee Member of Horatio Preservation; Founder of the Floral Club; and member of the Pulpit Aide. Elizabeth also served her church in numerous leadership and ministry positions, including President of the Senior Missionary, President of the Senior and Junior Usher Boards, President of the Gospel Choir, Senior Sunday School Teacher, Steward, and member of the Stewardess Board. Her life reflected steadfast faith, humble strength, and a heart for God's people. Elizabeth leaves to cherish fond memories: her son, Clarence Murray of North Augusta, SC; seven grandchildren, Justicia Stafford (Taravol) of Hopkins, SC, Stuart Murray (Gaby) of Summerville, SC, Simone Murray of Summerville, SC, Ciara Tackett (Ola) of Summerville, SC, Clarence Murray Jr. (Sarahanne) of Albany, NY, Cahara Murray of Atlanta, GA, and Chance Murray of Columbia, SC; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; five brothers, Earnest Miller (Lula) of MD, Charles Miller (Annie) of Horatio, SC, Glenn Miller of Rembert, SC, Gerald Miller (Cardean) of Beaufort, SC, and Clyde Miller (Peggy) of Rembert, SC; two sisters, Binkey Reynolds of New Haven, CT and Curlie Waiters (Thornton) of Horatio, SC; two special nephews, Thomas Miller Jr. (Alice) of Sumter, SC and William Boykin of Rembert, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents and ancestors, Elizabeth was preceded in death by four (4) brothers, Greg Miller Jr., Wash Miller, Thomas Miller, and Matthew "Tim" Miller, and one sister, Marilyn Miller
