Deaconess Josephine Anthony Magazine

Deaconess Josephine Anthony Magazine, 84, departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 18, 2018 at the Sumter Health and Rehablitation Center in Sumter, South Carolina. Born on August 17, 1933 in Sardenia, South Carolina, she was the youngest of thirteen children born to the late Gregg Anthony and Bessie Rhodes Anthony. Ms. Josephine was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. In 1950, she was united in marriage to the late Deacon Henry Magazine, Sr. To this loving union, three children were born: Henry, III, Shirley and Tilly. After moving to Sumter, Mrs. Magazine was employed for many years at Georgia Pacific Company, Sumter, and she assisted her husband in their family owned business the former “Henry’s Tailor Shop” here in Sumter. Mrs. Magazine began her Christian experience at her home church, Melina Presbyterian Church in Sardenia, SC. After moving to Sumter, she and her family joined and became lifelong members of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church under the auspices of the late Rev. H.H. Harvin, the late Rev. Lewis W. Walker, Sr. and continued with her present Pastor, Rev. Larry C. Weston. Mrs. Magazine loved her church family. She served faithfully in many capacities including: The Trinity Missionary Baptist Church Missionary Society, Senior Choir, Sunday School Teacher, Pastor’s Aide, President of the Senior Citizens Ministry, The Kitchen Committee, The Deaconess and she was a faithful attendee of the Wednesday night Bible Study. Ms. Josephine was loved and respected by all those who knew her. She was known for her direct and strong will to stand up for what was right and she spoke candidly about any situation she was passionate about. In her community, she was a member of the Runnymede Homeowners Association. In her spare time, she of enjoyed gardening, she especially loved the blue and purple Hydrangea flowers. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters and one great-grandchild Those left to cherish her precious memories are two daughters: Evangelist Shirley M. (Bishop John L.) Ward of Florence, South Carolina, Tilly M. (Henry) Little, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Henry Magazine, III, Sumter, South Carolina; 3 grandchildren, Takisha Little and her Finance Emmanuel Bormetis, Haiti, Quienton, Olivia and Jasmin Little; 4 sisters in-law, Loretta Collier, Georgia, Mattie Westry, South Carolina, Betty Magazine, Illinois , and Emma Magazine, Germany; 2 brothers in-law, Jasper (Sherrie) Magazine, Florida and James Parker, Illinois and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
