Mrs. Katie Mae Pinckney Mark

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” II Timothy 4:7 Katie Mae Pinckney Mark transitioned from this life to glory on Friday, June 5, 2026. She was born on April 17, 1928 in Sumter, SC to the late Enoch Pinckney and Evelina Johnson Pinckney. Katie attended the public schools in the Stateburg community, she valued the importance of education so later in life, she attended Hillcrest High school and graduated with a high school diploma. Katie was reared in a Christian home, accepted Christ at an early age and was a life-long member of Wayman Chapel AME church. She loved the Lord and the church and served faithfully as a Church School Teacher, Class leader, the Senior choir, Women’s Missionary Society and was a Girl Scout Leader. She supported the church and attended regularly until her health declined. Katie’s journey of faith had its seasons – times of joy and moments of quiet questioning. Yet, through it all, her reliance on God’s love remained a constant. In 1948 Katie married the late Samuel Mark Sr. The couple was blessed with seven children. Katie possessed a grateful heart; she loved her family dearly and showed her appreciation to everyone she came in contact with. She was a great cook as well as an avid gardener well into her senior years. Her benevolent nature led her to become an income tax preparer to assist others. She leaves to cherish her memories, three daughters, Deloris Harris of Olympia, Washington, Sherleen McCoy (Charles) of Charlotte, NC; and Nancy Mark of Charlotte, NC; two Sons; Samuel Mark Jr, (Susanna) of Sumter, SC and Joseph D. Mark (Shirley) of Sumter SC; twelve beloved grandchildren and twelve beloved great grandchildren; two sisters; Martha Hardy and Nancy Dyson, both of Sumter, SC; an aunt, Rovena Richardson of Sumter, SC; sisters in law: Lessie Mae Mark and Anetta Pinckney; special cousin Marie Davis, special niece, Belinda Pinckney and special godchildren Kimberly Blanding, Rubin “Chris” Gathers, CJ and Hannah Gathers and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by daughter, Emma Mark and son, John Mark; brothers, Enoch Pinckney, Jr; Samroy Pinckney and Phillip Pinckney. Although she is gone from our midst, she will forever be in our hearts and moreover, in the Eternal Presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus. Christ.
