Mr. Lonnie Kent Wiley

God in his almighty power, who is to wise to make a mistake and to just to do wrong, saw fit on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina to send his angels to escort Lonnie Kent Wiley into his heavenly kingdom. Lonnie Kent Wiley, 64, passed away peacefully with his mother and family by his side. Born on August 24, 1961, in Sumter, South Carolina, Lonnie was the third oldest child of Marie Harrison Wiley and the late Robert Joe Wiley. Lonnie was a lifelong member of High Hills African Methodist Episcopal Church where he formerly served faithfully as a member of the Usher Board, Teens for Christ Choir, Pastor’s Aide Ministry and President of the Young People’s Division. Lonnie had a strong interest in drama and was frequently engaged in composing plays, monologues, skits, Easter speeches, and similar works. He participated in many of the Black History Programs at the church. He enjoyed reading books during his spare time. Lonnie was the one to make it happen. He would always come through for whatever the need was. Lonnie was a proud graduate of Hillcrest High School Class of 1980. After High School Lonnie furthered his education at Sumter Area Technical College, now known as Central Carolina Technical College, where he majored in Criminal Justice. He worked various jobs throughout his lifetime including Kelly Services, Eaton Corporation, Pilgrim Pride, Walmart and later became a caregiver for family and friends. Lonnie always had words of encouragement, embodying the values of compassion and humility. He found peace in the company of family and friends, and he would always have something to say that would keep everyone laughing. He was an avid jokester and an enthusiastic comedian. Lonnie’s laughter, kindness, and generous spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. One of Lonnie’s greatest joys was spending time with his family and taking care of his nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Marie Harrison Wiley; Sumter, SC; sister, Kimberly Wiley, Sumter, SC and an adopted sister, Alice Fullwood of Columbia, SC; special nieces and nephew whom he loved and helped raised as his own, Sakea Jacques, Delaunda (Byron) Randolph all of Sumter, SC, Regina (Michael) Dais of Rembert, SC, Ashley McGee of Atlanta, GA and Battalion Commander Sgt. Desmond A. (Sgt. 1st Class. Dorian) Wiley of Fayetteville, NC; special grand nieces and nephews, Saryiah Smith, Makaila Wiley, Kaleacia Washington, Marcelous Christian, Desmond Wiley Jr., Maverick Wiley, Davinci Wiley, Monroe Wiley, Jayanna Jacques, Keon Lewis, Jr., Samya Jacques, Ja’Vaughn Jacques, Anylah Scott, Mi’Arriel Randolph, Maliyah Randolph and Ashton McGee; one great-grand niece, Bloom Jackson; three cousins who were reared as siblings, Barbara J. Wiley of Dalzell, SC, Oliver Marcell (Rachel) Wiley of Germantown, MD and Travis (Marcella) Wiley of Fayetteville, NC; five aunts, Shirley Harrison of Sumter, SC, Mary Alston of Brooklyn, NY, Deloris Choice of Bronx, NY, Stephanie (Dwight) Williams of Tacoma, WA and Wendy Croom of New York, NY; one uncle, Richard (Carla) Alston of Wedgefield, SC; special cousins, Tyrone Wiley and Micala “Mickey” Mack; very special friends, Jeanette Cato and Cheryl Bolden. He also leaves behind to cherish his memories a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Lonnie was preceded in death by his father Robert Joe Wiley; his sister, Karen Yvonne Wiley; his brothers, Andre Del’Aun Wiley and Robert Reginald Wiley; his maternal grandparents, William Penn Harrison and Epsie H. Washington, his paternal grandparents, Matthew and Elizabeth Singleton Wiley.
