Mrs Violivette Dickey Knight

Violivette Dickey Knight, daughter of the late Hazel Dickey and Azalee J. Baker Dickey, peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on Friday, August 2, 2024, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, South Carolina, with her loving husband by her side. Violivette was born May 8, 1947, in New Zion, South Carolina. She was the seventh of eight children. During her early years, she joined St. John AME Church, Kingstree, SC, where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She served as a Sunday School teacher and member of the gospel choir. She attended Walker Gamble High School, New Zion, SC and graduated in the class of 1965. After graduation, she started in the workforce at Clarendon Memorial Hospital. On June 5, 1971, she married the love of her life, David Knight and to this loving union, two daughters were born, Regina and LaSonia. Upon moving to Sumter, South Carolina, she worked for Hopewell Nursing Home and the Sumter County Health Department for many years, and retired on May 16, 2002. Violivette always put God first in her life and trusted God to order her steps. While residing in Sumter, she became a member of Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church. She was truly a woman of God and was unwavering in her faith. She remained a devoted soldier for kingdom building and would often pray and witness to others even through her illness. She was a member of Jordan Chapter No. 237 Order of Eastern Star. Virgie as she was so affectionately known, loved her family and would do whatever she could to help them in any way possible. In addition to her parents: her father, Hazel Dickey and mother, Azalee J. Dickey McCray; she was preceded in death by a daughter, LaSonia Patrice Knight-Jackson; two brothers-in-law: John Knight and Phil Knight; seven brothers: Hazel, Dovell, Jenerette and Waldo Dickey, Lee Ernest, Willard and William McCray; two sisters: Luethonia Harper and Cecelia McCray. Those left to cherish her fond memory; husband, David Knight of the home; daughter, Regina (Charles) Knight-Baxter of Sumter, SC; grandsons, Isaac Jackson and Aiden Alexander Knight-Davis; mother-in-law, Evola Knight; three sisters, Evelyn (Joseph) Witherspoon of Gable, SC, Oretta (Joe) DuRant of Reading, PA, and Willie Jean McCray of New York, NY; two brothers, Rev. Jerome McCray of Manning, SC and John McCray of Georgia; Bridgeport, CT; brother-in-law, Robert (Rev. Sandra) Knight, Sumter, SC; sisters-in-law, Florence Knight of Sumter, SC and Mae Dickey of Bridgeport CT; goddaughter, Tamera DuRant and godson, Xavier Thompson; Special niece and nephews she helped to raise; Geniece Johnson, Anthony Dickey, Joseph Witherspoon Jr., Hazel Witherspoon and Robert Witherspoon; Adopted Brothers-in-law, Joseph Witherspoon Sr. and Joe DuRant Jr. and a host of other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
