Mrs. Willie Mae Taylor Jackson

Mrs. Willie Mae Taylor Jackson was born in Columbia, SC on May 17, 1935 to the late Preston and Minnie Geiger Taylor. She departed this earthly life, after a brief illness, on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at her home. Mrs. Jackson attended public schools in Richland County School District One and was a graduate of C.A. Johnson High School class of 1953. After more than 30 years of loyal service, she retired as a Senior Sales Associate from Belk Department Stores in Columbia, SC. In 1956, she married Paul Arthur Jackson, who was the love of her life and together they nurtured and raised six children and one grandchild in their home located in North Columbia. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson were married for more than fifty four years before his death in March of 2010. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who absolutely loved her family and enjoyed family gatherings most of all. She enjoyed retail shopping therapy and loved to travel, taking the opportunity to visit her family in other cities and states as often as possible. As a young person, she joined and attended the Gill Creek Baptist Church of Columbia, SC and gave her life to Christ at a very early age. Mrs. Jackson is and always will be much loved by her devoted family. She will be dearly missed as a loving mother, adoring grandmother, caring sister, aunt, niece, cousin, neighbor and friend. She was predeceased by her parents, Preston and Minnie Taylor; her husband, Paul A. Jackson; her son, Gregory Jackson and her sisters, Elizabeth Taylor Friday and Mae Helen Taylor Clark. Those left to cherish precious memories are her children, Pamela T. Able; Paul Darrel (Maria) Jackson; Deltra Jackson; and Dwayne Jackson all of Columbia, SC and Sherry (Wayne) Sheets of Chelsea, MA; a granddaughter Crystal (Jerrod) Wilson of Columbia, SC whom she and her husband Paul raised in their home; one brother, Ralph (Mildred) Taylor of Blythewood, SC; two aunts, Mrs. Carrie Lee Ashford and Mrs. Maggie Cooke, both of Columbia, SC; three sisters-in- law, Mrs. Edna David of Teaneck, NJ, Mrs. Louise Jackson of Columbia, SC and Mrs. Mary Francis Jackson of Atlanta, GA; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and a host of other loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will all miss her. Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Palmer Memorial Chapel, with interment to follow in the Memorial Gardens of Columbia.
